Is a b20 swap illegal in California?

Yes, it is, and the reason is that it's technically considered a truck motor, which California law doesn't allow.

I'm not from CA, but that's what I heard. The CRV is considered a truck and you can't swap a truck motor into a car.

k, thanks. I was asking b/c I've heard that the laws here in B.C. are going to adopt California standards for vehicles, so I think the 1.8L's will be a safer bet.

Cheers,

just don't get pulled over for anything. have a stock looking car and cops wont harass you.

It is also illegal to have your car pass inspection when it clearly cannot, but that doesnt stop people from paying 75-100 bucks for a sticker!

All those rulse you have to deal with why I wouldn't want to live in Cali anymore. Lived there for 11 years of my life. The weather in the Oceanside area is absolutely amazing. I remember when it rained it was almost a fun thing. Living in Washington has made the rain annoying.

Yeah rules suck! It's like our parents all over again, right? Fuckin' man always tryin' to keep the r4c3rz down! :lmao:

(that was sarcasm, in case you didn't catch it. ;))

Haha, that was funny Blanco. Meh it's not so much rules like parental rules, it's more or less just annoying. I'd rather live in the Northwest anyways, less traffic up here too. Not as many road ragers either.

I look at it like the rules in different racing classes. They're there and there's nothing you can do about them, so you might as well learn how and where to bend them to your advantage. For instance, if a racing class specifies "no head porting" that doesn't mean you can't do an extrude hone to clean up the casting and maybe make the head flow better in a few trouble spots. I used that example because I don't know anyone who races competitively (sanctioned and on a track) who hasn't done that.

I never thought of it that way. When you put it that way it seems a lot more reasonable.

Once again Blanco has the answer to everything :p

In MA there is no such thing as the old stickers anymore. Your information is submitted and they print one up for you right out of the machine. Maybe these can be faked I don't know. The days are gone though when it was just a stack of stickers that could be, misplaced.

not that I would ever have taken advantage of the system...

How does emission test work when it comes to aftermarket turbo setups like a boosted LS then? I assume thats still legal in California right?

as long as its a kit sold by a company .. and it has to be smog legal, not all are.. . . only Greddy and Edelbrock as far as i know

see this is why im staying in missouri noone is jumping down your shirt for anything and its not like "big brother is watching" when it comes to cars and motor swaps and stuff like that
