hi there can some one help i just got my crx Vtec 1991 reg is J9 CRX how good

but i have been having some problems with it now when i am travelling at about 3000 rpm and push a bit harder the revs jump all about the place and it tries to cut out and then the enginmanagment light comes on and cuts out i then restart as i am travelling and it does and then cuts out again and then does not start. i think it may be the ECU i am just not sure because it all seems to be machanicly sound and when it was working the vtec was fantastic,

i have seen that having your heaters on can over heat the ecu as its under the passangers carpet, i was told when i got it the ECU had been remapped could it be i am running normal petrol instead of Vpower or something

please can some one let me know what they think

thanks ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, lol

have you had the problem since you had the car? if so, from what little i could understand, it sounds like the ecu or a sensor.

ignition module. god i'm a broken record with this :(.

the problem has only just started to get worse i have had the car 2-3 weeks but when i drove it home there was a little bit if the rev counter jumping in 5th gear redusing the speed on the motor way, so i just thought nothing of it.

wat you think thanks

i understand what you're saying and i'm saying i think it's the ignition module. when this component starts to fail it can present with symptoms in the tach. it can fluctuate 200+rpm generally with a little 'hiccup' feeling while you're driving, usually at a highway speed.

then there can be really violent freakouts; the tach can bury the needle in the red or crash down to zero instantly - the engine is still revving at a fairly constant rate, but the tach is all kooked out and the engine may 'hiccup' - and then theres the times when the ignition module fails pretty much completely and the engine starts to decel regardless of your fuel demands with the gas pedal.

you coast to a stop, maybe violently lurching vs. coasting depending upon whether the module has failed completely or has decided to have seisures/send about 10% of the info it needs to send to your engine. once stopped, the car may or may not start. give up, call a tow truck, and then 20 minutes later it does start and maybe won't show symptoms again for a week, or five minutes. or maybe it's really, finally, irrevocably dead.

sound familiar? if at all, check into your ignition module. $90 part.

that perfect thats exactly what the car is doing thank you i will keep you posted i will try and pick one up how easy is it to do your self to replace. i have got a price of £25 for one new i will try this thanks one again

I actually have an ignition module that I just bought from honda today. I don't need it because it turns out my CPS is bad, which means I need a new dizzy. PM me if you're interested.

Rpm fluctuation is usually caused by ignition coil or pick-up coil which is internal/ignition module would be the last part I would replace. Try switching distributers and see if that makes a difference, check the ohm resistance primary and secondary to see if it meets factory specs.

hi mate can you take a pic of what it looks like will it fit my CRX vtec mk2?
how much you looking for?

thanks

Well lets see the blurry ass picture is the injector resistor box. Not what you after. Your looking for the ignition module, its in the distributor which is what your spark plug wires go onto.

What you need is inside the dizzy (distributor) its the ignition control module. The red square piece.
