I just picked up a 00 gsr head with 66,ooo miles on it. Looking to do a little project nothing big, Basic.. Whats the best block besides the GSR of course to match this up to.

B20 if you want the extra compression. GS-R or LS otherwise...

b20/ls

and then there are weird people like me who would have pnp and 3 angle done on it and slap it on a b16 block w/ cometic head gasket and have some fun playing.

ls or the b20 from the crv

the best block to put on it would be an ITR block. or get a gsr block with some itr/ctr pistons.

Cost effective would be the CRVTEC...ITR is gunna be tough to find, and expensive...

why tough and expensive?

because it's a good block and more rare. which brings me to my next question. why would someone by a bare block and not have a anything else or a plan on what to do with it? thats like buying blu-ray dvd's without a blu-ray player or HDTV.

Do not get the itr block to much $ for nothing special, the itr gets its power from the valvetrain and hfp port and polish, all located in the itr head, the itr block and the gsr block are almost identical. I would personally suggest the gsr block it came off of. that will make you the happiest with the leas heartache. if you must though get a b18a block and make an lsvtec. just make sure you reasearch and do it right or it will be a total pos. (arp rod bolt & headstuds, gsr oil& waterpumps, etc) gl

buy an ls block, its easy to find and cheap, slap on your gsr head and call it a monster

b20 all the way, youtube b20 vtec you will get excited, ov course resleeve the block because b20 cylinder walls are thin

Very true, but by the same logic you'd assume that any of the other engine blocks mentioned would also be properly prepped and/or built for whatever purpose they're intended. Obviously an ITR block would be nice, but I don't really see spending the extra money for it when you can just choose one of the cheaper alternatives when you're going to be building it to suit your needs anyway.

If it was the head we're talking about, then yeah, spending some extra bucks for the ITR might be worth it, but the block? Meh, I dunno...
