Ok well I just bought an 89 ef sedan with a b16 OBD0. It ran fine for about 5 days then as I was driving down the road it just shut off. First I thought it was the main relay, went and got a new one, put it in but did the same old crank over, but no start. Anyways long story short, my rotor melted and I guess twisted, which caused my car not to start. I got a new rotor, the car cranked up. Now when ever I put the key into the on position I hear the main relay click over and over again until I start the car. Once the car is started it runs fine until I get into it, then at 5000 rpms (VTEC engagement) the car acts like its hitting the rev limiter.

question 1- Why did my rotor melt?

question 2- What is causing my engine not to be able to rev above 5k?

Thanks.

Your rotor melted because the bearings in your distributor are bad. It will happen again if you dont replace the distributor. The second problem could be a unhooked vtec control modual, on the side of the head.

I agree with d15beater. Sounds like the distributor and the vtec wiring. And are you sure you got the right main relay?

Well I took the main relay that I bought back and just used the old one. Where can I get an OBD0 distributor for a good price? And might anyone have a picture of this vtec control modual?

Thamks

One more thing, when I went to go get the rotor, I had to get one off of an 89 crx si. Will a distributor for an 89 crx si work on my B16?

NO, it won't. I beleive you'll want one from a obd0 b series integra(if you want usdm). or you can just get one from distributor king on ebay. they're reputable and good quality dizzies, and I beleive about $200 shipped. They also fixed the overheating problem that's somewhat common on oem dizzies.

I guess when I was checking all the fuses I forgot to put the ECU fuse back in the right place, which is why it wouldn't rev past 5k. I'm an idiot. It doesn't look like an OBD0 Integra Dizzy will work, Does any one know the part# or #'s of any that will work. Again the motor is a 89 SiR B16a.

Alright I was driving and my car and the rpm meter went down to zero, but when I gave it gas it would go back up then the car shut off again. I pulled the cap off and the rotor isn't melted. The only thing I've done to the car since I got it is put a system in it. Is it possible that the system is pulling too much power and burning stuff up?

That almost sounds like a ground issue to me. It could be a power or fuse issue still...are you throwing any codes? anything strange going on with the idle or how the car is running? Does it to it if you have lights/stereo/etc. off?

The only code it's throwing is 23 which is knock sensor. When I bought it the idle was a little high, but I adjusted the Idle Air Valve, or w/e it is, the idle kind've wanders a bit, which I believe is caused by the FIT valve. As far as the stereo etc is involved I don't know. I drove it three hours home on the highway when I bought it and didn't have a problem, then today I left my rent's house, and before I'm out of the neighborhood it shuts off.

knock sensor shouldn't cause any problems but I could be wrong. I'd try driving without the stereo on and see if it makes any difference - could be pulling too much voltage - if that isn't it I'd go ahead and check your connections especially your grounds and battery connections.

Yeah I think I'm gonna take all the stereo equipment out and see how it does. The battery is in the trunk so it wont be too hard to unhook it all.

knock sensor wont cause any problems.. they'll just throw a code.. u can use a integra distributor but i gotta cut the bottom ear and only the top ear will bolts up

just get a distributor king dizzy. they're pretty good from what i hear. or just go to ebay or the parts section of hs and buy a used b16 dizzy.

you can also use a 90-91 integra distributer with some grinding mods and use one bolt but of course it would be best to use B16 cause all lines up just right. As for the ignition rotor you use a 90-91 integra Rotor same thing as the jdm B16.
