I'm looking at getting a 96 prelude from a guy but when you start it, it revs high then drops. It does this the entire time its running. He told me that he swapped the engine for one out of a 1997 Accord and its supposed to be a h22. I have never had or messed with Hondas before so I have no clue where to even start looking to fix the problem. Any help would be great.

first thing, check the coolant system. my prelude had a f'ed up radiator and would do that. My accord did the same thing after blowing a heater hose..

clean the screen inside your idle air control valve with carb cleaner

It sounds like its nothing major, so I think I'll get it. Thanks for the help and I'm sure I'll have many more questions as I get into modifying the car.

Just to state the obvious: Definitely make sure its an h22 and not an f22. Not trying to be a smart ass or anything but that would really be some piss in your corn flakes.

f22 is a great engine. will run for ever as a stock dd. also takes boost well. the revving is almost definately a coolant issue.

Yeah definitely a reliable engine but not if your looking for power. i drive an accord with an f22. It runs great but i have the same problem with revving and vtec. I would definitely be upset if i were expecting an H22 and got an f22.

that's not what it was made for. It's supposed to have enough power to haul around a family sedan, be reliable and econimical. It does those 3 things, and does them well.

True. Very true but he's not driving a family sedan. Its a prelude. I guess if he just wants a practical car then f22 is right up his alley.

Actually the f22A1 is dohc too. Didnt think about that. Still its not the h22 like lowrollin82 is being promised. The type r accord did have an h22a in 97. Maybe thats where it came from. Hmm...
