So I bought me some new toys! First is my new loop pedal that is great for those random beats that pop into your head and adding to them. I need more pedals and I may finally buy an electric guitar cause a pedal board would be sick(but expensive as hell).

Now here is what I'm so fucking syked about... Got it this morning. Pics make the skins look worse than they are.

Yes, it's in a side shed of my barn, the crap around it will be cleaned out soon. I love it because it's branched into the pasture and has a big sliding door on each side to open up for a breeze. My cows stick their heads in too.

I get the bass pedal tomorrow morning so I can actually practice now. I have never even touched drums until today... I had to do a google search to make sure I had it setup correctly, and I didn't lol. I had the snare to my left instead of in front of me. After playing guitar and doing a lot of listening/reading/watching for some time, I've become pretty musically inclined so I think I will catch on pretty fast. I've always wanted to play drums and I am entirely self-taught on the guitar, so I know I can do it the same way with the drums. Sure, I may create a bad habit or two and not know everything I'm doing, but it will sound good to me and I'll work on all that after I develop a good amount of skill. Either way, I can't wait to get practicing.

cool deal man.

i want to get a drum set too... but i have no where to put it 'till E moves out.... plus, i suck at 'em. i'm not coordinated enough. I KNOW i'm off and it drives me nuts cuz i can't do anything about it. lol

drums are all about counting. if you can pat your head and rub your belly, you can learn drums.

Yeah, I figured I am fortunate enough to make as much noise as I want and should take advantage of the opportunity. I've also always had an itch to learn the drums. About being off, whenever I practicing without the pedal and would go a hair off on something it would also bug the crap outta me but my timing has always been great... I think I'll get it down shortly. At least you can see the problem when you play, some drummers SUCK and have no idea.

lol, I just did that to check. While that technicality may be fairly true, there is something that cannot be learned when it comes to making music. You gotta make it flow and give it umph. You hear some people play who just seem to put nothing into it and it bores me. Someone can get very skilled, but if you don't put "blood, sweat, and tears" attitude into your playing, it just won't sound great. Just my .02.

if you aren't sweating, you aren't playing. when i think of drummers, i think of dave grohl and travis barker. you'll be exhausted after a long session.

wheres blanco? i think he's a drummer.

lol, I was talking more along the lines of putting emotion into your performance instead of physically sweating. And yeah, Blanco tears up some drums. He's posted some of his work on here I'm pretty sure.

yeah, i know what you meant about the emotional part. but if you are getting into a performance, you are going to be exhausted. physically and emotionally. especially with some of the tough songs and the solos. you can tell who is lazy when they play, it sounds way different.

Oh, my misunderstanding. And most definitely can you tell, I was working up a sweat earlier.

Off to pickup my pedal :)

Haha, I was wondering when you would show up.

Thanks for the links, I haven't started looking around for help just yet and you saved me some research. I'll join up on that forum tonight, I'll be making noob help posts in no time.

The heads aren't as bad as they look. Your setup looks sick and you make my cymbals feel so inferior, especially my splash =(

Nice drum sets, to the both of you. Wish I had coordination to do drums. I have a hard time just on rockband doing them, and that's 10 times easier to play than real drums.

Right on and thank you. :)

I've actually added a splash to my kit, just above the 12" (second) tom. It's a 12" AAX Metal Splash. I've got a fair chunk of change tied up in those puppies, around $1500 total. But, there's a company called Saluda that makes pretty good sounding cymbals for around half the cost of Sabian or Zildjian. You'll see them on the forum. There's also a blog on my MySpace with a rundown of my setup.
No problem.

I'm hoping to learn all about what I need for my desired sounds so I can customize my cymbals and such. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll look them up when I have more than a negative sum of money. I'm exhausted, so I'll hit up your myspace and forum tomorrow after I get some work done. I'll also add mine to my profile.

Thanks.
I played rockband drums once and they were off. I had to hit the pedal way too early, it was overcompensating for the pedal lag(I'm sure there's a technical term for it). But still easier than these things are, you are correct.
