/\ IDIOT ALERT /\
I have a buddy here that wants know know what would be best in his car. This is what he has now,1996 honda civic hatchback dx, d16 motor(105,000 miles).
i want a turbo charger with the flutter BOV and want to know how much boost i can run on it. Should he swap it or build the S outta of this. He is looking to drag and autox with it. He told me he wants to turbo it for sure. I have nothing for him and am hoping that all you could help with suggestions on motor, what to do with it and what turbo item to put with it. Thanks.

stock d16 can handle up to 200hp on a really good tune,,,
or he could build it and hold more,
or he could swap it,and do the same..
this is a newb question that has been literally answered 90 million times,do some research and then come talk

Ok, I have done some research. Just alittle and can't find much. So far, it is between a B16 or an H22. He is looking for some big boost. H22 I have seen is around 15lbs but not sure on the B16. If the b16, will he want to go SOCH or DOCH???

bump

DOHC or SOHC you mean? The B16 doesn't come in anything but DOHC. If it does, then may a pack of rabid dogs bite off my neighbors leg, so that I may learn from my mistakes. :D

b16 is only dohc..the D16 is sohc...
he just wants to do alot of boost?
cuz it doesnt matter what motor he gets if all he is going foris huge psi numbers

The B16 and the H22 are two completely different motors. Honestly I wouldn't try and run 15 lbs of boost on either of them unless they were built, and if you're gonna build the motor, then it doesn't really much matter which one you start with. If he's going to do a complete engine build I'd probably just start with an LS block and go from there...

Tell your friend to do his own research.

Ah yes, another example of the "my buddy is..." scenario. This phenomenon never ceases to amaze me. It seems like everyone's friend is capable of building engines and tuning cars but unable to perform simple tasks like search the Internet or sign up a screen name on a web forum...

nope man that is too hard for them to search. its like a magic force field keeping their respective mouse away from clicking on the forbidden text box to type out a simple question damn those internet people always messing with the honda noobs. I feel sorry for them. Dude if you have the d16 and you are gonna build the motor anyways why not build what you got? swap the head, forged pistons, rods, arp rod bolts, arp head studs, new thicker head gasket, resleeve the block, new cam, cam gear, and valve train, throw a t3/t4 turbo, 2 inch IC piping, spearco intercooler, 3" turbo back exhaust, and gut the car. sometimes swapping the motor only gets you more issues with a different motor.

I have search for a good half a day and cant find reliable sources. This kid is kinda of lazy but has money to play with. The only thing he tells me that he wants run plenty of boost and that is about it. This seems to be the only reliable place for info. I respect BrutalB83 posting were ever I see and and take his words. I gave him good feed back and always will when I can. I would tell him to do his own but for some cash and how much enjoy working and learning about this stuff, I am more than happy to. I dont know much but catching on quick.

k well then here are some more tips. The weak points in hondas are the rod bolts, and then the rods especially under boost. So I would recomend replacing both of those. Eagle H-beam rods are very good quality and I will always recomend ARP rod bolts to hopefully prevent him spinning a bearing.

:werd:

No one's ever regretted going with ARP hardware...

I already know that Psi I different on turbo size. I ready up on them forums. I just dont have a clue what motor is best for having a turbo put in. Will a D16 hold up if turbo and has 100,000+ miles on it?

Any engine will hold a turbo if you give it proper fuel and tuning. You can turbocharge your lawn mower with the properly sized turbo, fuel, and tuning. This is why PSI is a mostly irrelevant term. A step further, a D16 can easily and safely hold 200whp and up to 250whp with an outstanding tune. Whether that takes 5psi on a really large turbo or 50psi on a super small turbo, doesn't really matter.
exactly,,it doesnt sound to me like you really know in-depth about turbo's and just want to put one on to boost high..
you need to research the actual motors you are interested in,,research how much hp the bottom end will hold safely,

Go with a B18 and a B18C1 head thats the LS-Vtec and get some eagle rods and arp head stud's and some SIR cams and AEM tru cam gears ull be around 10* psi of boost but if he wants more then i recommend a full build

Everyone that comes on this site is always like swap a b-series motor in there, so I will say something totally different. Swap an f22b1 in there. They have semi low compression for a good boost setup and with it being a 2.2 liter it is bigger than the biggest b-series motor. I would suggest however still doing the eagle rods, arp head studs and rod bolts at the very least. But instead of the f22b1 tranny try and find an h22 tranny it has shorter gears.

on that note, just put a C30 in there.

as in the volvo c30? jk well if your gonna go with a c30 you might as well go with the c32a the dohc version.

Theres a reason why people suggest swapping a b motor in an ef. the engine bay is just to damn small to swap an H/F motor in there. Sure it can be done but it takes a lot more work. And considering all the extra hassle you go through its really not worth it for the extra hp. Atleast as far as most people are concerned, thats why you dont see to many H/F swapped ef's.
