Can you swap out the ring/pinion in an S1? If so, who makes aftermarket gear sets?

The entire transmission can be rebuilt so yes it is possible - why do you want aftermarket gear sets? Overall would be cheaper to go buy an ITR tranny or b16 tranny than getting the aftermarket gears cuz I have seen them run ~500 per gear.

5000rpm at 75mph. It can't be good for it!

On what motor? We're not talking about big ole' V8s here that redline at 5500 or 6k rpms. If it wasn't safe for Honda motors to be consistently revving that high then don't you think Honda would have used different gearing in their transmissions?

Man, you nailed my problem square on the head!! I'm not use to this high reving shit!!!! I bought this thing to drive back and fourth to work, 80 miles a day, my truck is a diesel and I refuse to pay $4 per gallon. I've had camaro's, vettes, chevelle's, mustangs and atleast 20 Vw's(two that were high 12 second cars). Nothing I have is stock!! This is my first "import"(bugs not included). This thing is a freaking blast!!! I havent driven anything else in two months. It's got a jdm b16 swap. I'm just worried about how the constant high rpm (4500-5000) will affect the engine in the long run. It's only got 52000 on it now. I have been told that this jdm stuff is geared so short becouse over there, they dont have room to run as fast as we do on the interstates. (could be bullshit, I don't know). But anyway, so if I run this thing at 5000rpm, should it be OK, or should I pick up a different trans?

you're fine with that tranny. if it really bothers you, you can get a gsr tranny...but like BrutalB83 said, honda wouldn't make a tranny that couldn't handle the high reving of the motor..

Yeah, you should be fine as far as the longevity of the motor goes. The only reason to swap it out would be for better gas mileage, but you'd lose performance that way.

I don't know if you're interested, but you can build a hybrid transmission using OEM gears. You could do like a GS-R fourth and an LS fifth, or just the LS fifth. That way you can preserve the shorter 1-3 or 1-4 gears for off-the-line quickness and then have a longer fifth gear for cruising on the highway...

yea id just put a ls 5th in it. i doubt if u ever raced someone 5th wouldn't lose u the race. no need to do more than 1/4 miles anyways

did that make u feel like vin diesel? Cuz seriously I just laughed my ass off....if he wants to race whether 1/8 mile or until his car can't give him any more speed it's whatever...

Yeah, that's why I suggested GS-R fourth and LS fifth. That way it's a more gradual transition into the longer gears. If you do just the LS fifth, then you'll have four super short gears and then you'll fall flat on your face when you hit fifth...

Yea, I dont want to lose my performance. I think if I do anything, it will be the GSR. Fuel milage isn't that bad right now, 25-27mpg. Now I just need to decide if the money and time to swap to a GSR will be worth it.

right I caught that - was just talkin cuz bored and stating useless info that is worthless
