So dig this...my original plan was to get a 1.6 zc sohc vtec engine and boost it...my friend has one and loves it. The main reason for wanting this engine is because of the price and it will drop right into my car... but it only has 130 HP... My other thing I was thinking about doing was just doing a B16 swap which has 170HP .... however thats like $1500 more dollars if not more... so what I was wondering is what can I do to take the 130HP motor (before turbo) and increasing that HP by a decent amount, maybe at least adding a good 25 HP or so if not more so it will put it up to a closer HP of the B16...

The cylinder sleeves.

This a picture of a sleeved K series

what do you mean sleeve it?

Something that needs to be addressed here...

You're going about this completely wrong. Building a motor up for naturally aspirated power is completely different than setting it up for boost. You don't build up a motor to a certain power level and then boost, instead, you disregard how much power it's making for the time being and focus on making sure the motor is setup to handle the amount of power you plan on making with forced induction.

For example, if you want to make the engine more powerful right now (without turbo) you could install new pistons and up the compression. But guess what? When you go to boost you're not going to want higher compression, you're going to want either stock or lower than stock compression numbers (depending on how serious your turbo setup is going to be).

Time for you to read up on all of this methinks...

yeah I understand that because I was planning on getting lower compression pistons and new rods in it to handle the boost...I just didn't know if there were a couple things maybe I could do to not only handle boost, but give me more Hp in general before I boost it just go give me even that much more power that's all...but yeah i'll def. do some more research and read up on something things

Headwork. That's the best thing you can do to make power.

:werd:

A nice port n' polish will help you out either way you go, boosted or naturally-aspirated. Just be forewarned though, if you actually are going to do lower comp pistons, your motor will probably feel a bit anemic off of boost. You might actually want to wait until you have the money to build your motor up and install the turbo all at once...

sleeves are gay.i had them in my car and my sleeves went to shits after building it up to about 22psi at CFT we did a decent run but that was my old set-up shortly after that day my motor went to shyts becuase of my sleeves

well let me ask you this, and I know this has prob. been addressed many times and I tried to find some stuff on it but couldn't find much...but if I take a zc or d16z6 and do some head work i could still achieve about the same power as a b16a ...but how much money would I have to spend on doing enough work to the D engine to get that power?

yeah man that looks real good...thats what I have decided to do...the reason that I liked the Zc was because of the low mileage, but if I am doing new internal work that readlly wouldn't make a difference...so i am going with a d16z6. How much did all that run you when you finished?

dont waste your time on a sohc
and i wanna see a sohc making 130hp stock...
to the flywheel if your lucky.

your numbers for these engines are bhp or flywheel hp.
and if you do go through with a SOHC, just boost it till it blows, then 300$ and do it again until your tired of pulling single cams.

blanco isn't going to like this guy....

This, is what I have to say about that.
