ok so i was reading the thing about brake boosting,in the archives....
now my question is,can you break boost with a standard??
and if soo,,isnt it bad for your clutch??
i didnt know if i post this in the archives,,so sorry if i did wrong

shoot, what's a standard? lol. a manual? once i know i can tell you lol

it's for automatics because of torque convertors and turbo vehicles for early spooling.

but am i right in thinking it's not benificial for a naturally aspirated manual? j/w

well some ppl like to do it to get the jump from a kick. vs v8 torque monsters lol, but yea it will be bad on your clutch so i wouldn't advise it

I really don't know how you're supposed to launch for drag. So I just put it in first and hold in the clutch, rev it up to around 5-6k and pop the clutch.

Probably dumb as hell, but hey, it worked :). Not doing it again tho.

nah you did it right,,my boy has 2step and set it at 4k,,seems to work ok,,spins a little,,

lol it depends on the power your motor makes. 145 to the wheels and you can drop the clutch on it at 4k (it's what i do on my stock B16). once you start getting more torque and such, you need to exercise some throttle control and possibly even some hard clutch slippage. and dont forget to maintain your torque steer.

just so you all know. brake boosting is just leaving your car in gear, getting up to speed, then with your left foot, hold the brake enough so that you maintain that speed at full throttle (with your right foot, in case any of you were still confused, press the gas pedal to the floor.) that gives your engine load to boost against. that way you can already have your turbo spooled up to max boost as soon as you let off the brake. as long as your clutch isn't slipping, it isn't any harder on your clutch than accelerating in 5th gear with your left foot not touching anything. it is however, a LOT harder on your brakes. this applies to both standards and automatics.

and secondly, no.... you can not brake boost a N/A. the only gain you'd get is reaction time it takes to press your gas pedal to the floor, which is probably about the same as the time it takes to release the brake pedal. unless your throttle response is horrible (which isn't something associated with N/A builds,) but then you still have to factor in the time it takes for the piston to retract into the caliper... sooooo. just dont....

^your wrong...
break boosting is when your launching,,,you put load on the drivetires, and when you launch there is waaay less chance of tire spin,,this gives you better off the line times,

in no way do you get up to speed anywhere in the mix

ok just wanted to tell ppl what brake boosting is. brake boosting is anytime you have your foot on the throttle and on the brake at the same time to build boost

Brake boosting is something a lot of RWD cars do, not FWD. With a FWD non abs car, you can "pre-load" the clutch by holding the parking brake up while your launching the car to get traction faster. This is done with turbo fwd cars. If you try to brake boost a fwd you will toast your clutch and brakes and sometimes if done too long will boil the brake fluid in the lines due to the amount of heat from the wheels.

I suggest, for FWD cars with minimal power, 2 step.
If you make a significant amount of power (turbo) where you go through three gears easily, than I suggest a 2-3 stage boost control(in most ems'), and 2 step as well. How this works is simple. The computer reads what gear the transaxle is in from the vss, then the computer (ems) will determine your pre-set boost level for that gear. I had my 16psi street tune on 93 setup as follows: 1st gear, 9psi, 2cd gear, 13 psi, third gear + was 16 psi. This works well when on street tires. If your on slicks at the track, there is no need for this.

what are you guys talking about? anything that's turbocharged can brake boost. and no, it's got nothing to do with "preloading" your suspension before a launch. read the link above, then read my previous post.

the bottom line is ive answered this correctly so ppl can stop posting now

yaa too much BS is going to occur. lock this!

i'll also be the first to say, this should be in the driving techniques section.

no it shouldnt:D

know how to brake boost but i wasnt sure if it would mess up the clutch
so a broken clutch is general tech
