I'm a noob in this forum, but I've been reading alot on the web about boosting the D16Y8. I've got to pull the motor out of the car because I'm refreshing the whole car. I'm the original owner and I just love my Civic!! It did get into a front end collision so I need to respray the whole car. Anyways, I've got a 16G already and a CX manifold to start the boosting process. I know I've got to get a whole lot more parts to boost the thing, but this is where I need your guys' help!! I want to make this motor reliable and just add a little oomph!! I'm going to freshen the motor up since I have 145K on it already. What internals should I go with? Also, what clutch should I run?

i plan on doing same thing you are and im doing forged pistons with maybe a slightly lower than stock ratio and eagle rods along with a stage 2 F1 clutch flywheel package. everyone i talk to says that with rods and pistons and a good tune you can easily and reliably push 250-300 hp. i know for a fact the stage 2 clutch is good. brand you choose is up to you im going with F1 cuz im poor. also youl need engine managment of some sort for air fuel ration. Plus a higher map bar. **go to the turbo tech section here and look at those articals** they helped me.

I want about 200-300. I just want it reliable. I'm figuring a budget at about $2000 all said and done. I do all the work except for machining. I've been reading on Vitara Pistons, and I'm curious about the block being notched.

If I wanted more than 200, let's say around 300 then what else do i need with the vitaras?

I've been reading up on the build for my EJ and now I'm coming clkose to a conclusion. I really want close to 300WHP. I've read up on the Vitaras and FJD rods. Now, I'm a little concerned regarding the block, I'm noticing everyone seems to run a6 blocks with y8 heads. What's with the combo? Is the y8 block not good enough? I've got a 16G turbo sitting in my closet, with 450 DSM injectors. Should I start looking for a a6 block or is there anyway to open up the oil passages on the y8 block... I've read on other forums that y8 blocks are notorious for spinning rod bearings.

Don't forget, you have to be able to stop well if you're going for that much power. :D

You will be fine with your d16y8 block, as long as you keep the redline at stock. Don't over-rev it. Plenty of people have boosted DDs with that engine. You may want to look into rods though, considering your target goal.

What's this about opening up oil passages? All of the oil passages are the same on the d-series blocks. Are you talking about the oil squirter found on non-vtec d-series blocks?

You're going to need more than 450cc injectors to get to 300HP. You could just increase the fuel pressure, but it's not a good idea if you want reliability. 550cc injectors should be adequate.

I think reaching 300HP with a y8 is going to cost a lot more than $300. Your engine managment sollution will probably cost more than that. Not to mention tuning and dyno time.

That said, I'm sure everyone here would like to see you build it up with a nice long build thread with lots of pictures.

Blanco, I'm seriously leaning towards running stock internals and boosting. What do you think the 16g will produce power wise at the wheels? I know alot of tuning is necessary to make this thing run good. I've been reading as much as I can and there are so many opinions out there that it's getting to be confusing. I'm impressed with your wealth of knowledge and I would gladly appreciate any assistance from you.

my buddy just got his D built and boosted. i dont know exact specifics of it yet, but it's a Z6 block, possibly a D15B head, sleeved, forged bottom end, "T28 turbo ball bearing garrett" is what he said. spools up at 3800rpm he also says. and the tuner at the shop told him that he (tuner) was taking it for a test drive and ended up racing a C6 corvette from a roll and was said to have smoked him.

19psi got him to 312hp and 278ft/lbs
32psi got him to 374hp and 327ft/lbs

i wanna know where the torque is coming from

i have yet to see the dyno charts tho. he just told me over aim a week ago. it's not done tuning or out of the shop yet.

oh. well how come the chart that was posted earlier of a Z6 block wasnt making nearly as much torque even at 400hp? proportionally speaking.

ooook, i got him to bring the car over today. guess what. no turbo. he was just messin with me since he knows that's basicly the only thing he can do to a D15 to beat a B16 lol. but he did get it lowered with type-r rear lca's and swaybar on some buddy club rims. so, sorry.

all those numbers i posted are ficticious

sorry blanco, and others... :)
