iight, i'd like to kno the first steps to tuning my suspension for an civic EK3. could someone guide me in the right direction as to what i shud change/tune first because currently the entire suspension is the stock suspension.

The car has a d15b vtec engine and i installed a cold air intake and extractors now i jus need something to hold the car to the ground?

Thanks

:werd: tires first then worry about the other stuff. I've heard a lot of good things about the RT-615s.

If You Have The Money Go 4 The Tein Ss Coilovers With Pillow Mounts And Edfc Unit,, You Have A Choice Of Dropping The Car As Low As U Want And Control The Ride Adjustment From Inside The Car , Soft Or Hard Depending On The Road,,, If You Are Going To Drop Your Ride Low To The Ground Make Sure To Get A Camber Kit..... Dont 4get The Sway Bars All Around... YESSSS!!! VERY IMPORTANT TIRES FIRST!!!!!

Why are you capitalizing every word?

But like everyone is saying, start with tires. Following the tires it depends on your budget, some coilovers or replacement struts/shocks and some springs.

I think he's capitalizing every word because I'd venture to guess that he's like 15 and doesn't have his own car yet, but thinks he knows all the right stuff to get. But I could be wrong, I'm just wondering how you can be so stupid as to capitalize the first letter of every word. Didn't they teach these things in school? (I wouldn't know, I was homeschooled.)

It seems like a whole lot of extra time to do that too, look at his stats and list of rides. I don't believe it. haha

forgive my stupidity on any questions i may ask about the suspension because i dont have a clue about suspension parts, i know mostly engine stuff

i already have good enough tires
if i install the coilovers, will i have to install the chamber kit simultaneously (at the same time)?
when installing the coilovers, dont u remove the springs? :S

I think you're gonna have to lol. I'm gonna re-do my suspension soon too, when I get the moolah.

:werd: if you really have those cars, take a picture of yourself standing in front of them, holding up a piece of paper with your username.

depending on the coilover setup you get, a camber kit may or may not be necessary. having one along with a camber adjustable coilover setup wont hurt tho. it can give you extra degrees of adjustability. like instead of just +-5deg camber, +-8to9deg. after looking all around, i found the buddy club P1 camber kit to be of very high quality and value.

when you install coilovers, it replaces the spring and damper (aka shock, strut). but no you dont have to remove the springs from the strut. with coilovers, you replace the whole unit. check out a haynes manual available at autozone for instruction, and it will tell you everything you need to know.

as far as upgrading suspension, i recommend a tein coilover setup, or kyb struts and some ground control springs. oem strut tower bars are cheap and effective. mine was 45 bucks OEM honda from a honda dealer. i also recommend energy suspension bushings, polyurathane. polyurathane is a much harder dampening material than rubber, and resists water along with the loss of moisture rubber gets (dry rot). polyurathane motor mounts help a lot too. sort of suspension. lower control arms can be replaced with lightweight, stronger versions. steering pinion can sometimes be changed out for a tighter radius turn as well. i also recommend titanium hardware (bolts and nuts) for the suspension components. resists corrosion and is lighter than stock.

enjoy some more research!

If you're looking for a strut bar, I'd shop around for a bit first. After looking for a month, I found a used Neuspeed front strut bar for $45 on Craigslist. It pays to be patient.

lol, same price. OEM is proven. no shipping cost if you buy from your honda dealer, and it's brand new reatail, not craigslist'd :)

I didn't pay shipping either ;) it was some local guy that had it.

Neuspeed > OEM :) quite sure Blanco will vouch for me as well ;)

lol ew. sorry, blanco can vouch if he wants. i respect his word, but he's not god.

neuspeed, or honda? the same people that built the rest of your engineering marvel.

neuspeed is meh ok. under w/e league skunk2 is in. show me data that the neuspeed bar works better than the OEM. i'm going to bet it's exactly the same. did you get yours brand new? you didn't say. either way, at least i didnt have to look for the deal, it was just waiting for me.

OEM FTW.

No it was used. I just like that it mounts to the UCAs better.

Meh just because Honda designed it doesn't mean it's great either. If Honda stuff is so great, then why have you probably changed out your suspension for aftermarket stuff? You probably have an aftermarket intake as well. So your argument isn't a great one.

I personally went with an OEM Honda strut tower bar also.

They're going to provide around the same gain just as in the argument with name brand vs no name for intakes.

honestly it's because i started with an EX. if I had a type-r i wouldnt have touched my suspension.

honda stuff is so great, because they have the capability to spend thousands upon millions of dollars on R&D. i'm sure it does everything it should do and more.

my argument is a great one because there are a lot of products that claim to be better when infact they hold no gain over stock components. i'm just saying dont throw out an OEM part just because it's OEM. stock is sometimes better. sometimes not.

in this case, OEM is enough. beyond that, if you believe the neuspeed is good as well, still no need to say the OEM is inferior unless you have evidence that it's failed in someway that the newspeed has excelled. i havnt seen anything like that.

it depends on what you want the suspension for? Alot of autocross guys use the Ground Controll coil overs with the revalved adjustable Konis with the Suspension Tech sway bars and change all the bushings(poly) and get ingals camber kits then take it some where to get it corner wieght makes a HUGE diff so when your flyin around a corner you can have one of you rear tires to suck up into the wheel well rollin on three. Falken Azines are good tires and there cheap about 70-75 bucks each another good tire are the Bridgestone Potenza 01-R there about 100 and somethin hope this helps
:D
