I find it amazing that any genetic material survived for millions of years to be tested now.

Basic proteins can survive that long amount of time... fully structured DNA cannot. It lasts maybe two million years. However science has known about the evolutionary connection between dinosaurs and modern birds for quite some time. Just look up Archaeopteryx... that's the transitional, or "missing link", between dinosaurs and birds.

That and this news is about 10 years old. I know that NYT is just getting to it now, but evolutionary signatures have pointed to dinosaurs evolving into birds for a long time.

yeah, i was about to call repost until i saw the date on the press article...

I think that the article was saying the solid scientific proof has been established. Not just a hypothsys made from looking at bone structures.

there was something on the science channel about 3 months ago about guys changing the protein in the development stage of a baby chickens, adding protein at certain times to certain parts, they grew one with a long tail, one with scales instead of feathers, one with dinosaur like arms and feet, I don't think they did them all at one yet, well at least they didn't show it on tv anyways. but its some pretty crazy shit

???? Ive seen it before but not making a connection. Enlighten me.

It was one of the main theories about dinosaurs presented in the film. Don't worry about it though, I was just making a joke...

Since we're on the subject of Jurassic Park (and I apologize for the threadjack here), was anyone else bothered by the scene where the T-Rex pushes the Explorer off of the ledge and then it gets stuck in the tree branches? Don't get me wrong, I like the movie, but how the hell did the writers and editors ever allow such a horrible inconsistency to remain in the film?

If you don't remember what I'm talking about, the T-Rex busts out of it's cage, and it looks like the ground in there is level to the ground outside, but then, it later smashes one of the tour cars and pushes it into it's cage, and suddenly it's several hundred feet deep for some reason.

Anyway, sorry to get off track, just wanted to see if anyone else had noticed that and was bothered by it...

10 years? I could have sworn I dug up a newspaper article and did it for the 'Daily News' in 4th grade along with the topic of global warming the same year. Eh, maybe I'm just delusional. I'm still wondering how whales were supposedly once much like dogs.

I don't put much into wiki, but I see where they got the idea... I was just... meh, I worded that wrong. I was wondering if I'd heard that or if it was something I studied once. lol

I'd put more stock into stuff like that that's on Wiki then I would say, an article about a movie or a car. People who care enough about cetacean evolution to write a Wikipedia article on the subject are probably qualified to talk about it...
