Damn, super-clean car, he really does have some money in that thing, you can find them for a lot cheaper than that though.

Nice. Maybe it's a seeing them in person type thing, but I don't really understand what exactly is so special about the Skyline. Yea it's a sexy car and all, but $44k special?

Right there a lot of cars more rare than the Skyline that can be obtained much easier and cheaper.

Is that supposed to be a smart ass comment?

What makes it one of the most legendary cars? Is it that amazing of a car? Has anyone here ever driven one? I'm not bashing them or anything, I'm just curious.

In no way a smart ass coment, Im not saying its not an amazing car, but there are cars that could be considered just as rare and you can get a hold of much easier. Dont get me wrong the Skyline is a very fine car, but everyone and their cousin knows what it is, I would much rather have a car not many people know about, the Datsun 510 for example, a pretty rare car not many people know about and you can get one fairly easy, and anyone who knows anything would give you just as much respect for having a clean 510 as they would if you had a Skyline. IMO.

Ive always wanted a Skyline R34, but I read somewhere the frame of the car doesnt meet the safety requirements for something or another, so they cant be street legal in the U.S. I know you can get R33s but Idk. Thats just what I read. So who knows if its true.

Not exactly true. Its just, in order to make an imported car street legal in the US it has to have the correct internal components (like a speedometer in MPH and all english alert lights), and it has to be crash tested.

The reason the R32 is allowed to be imported is because a company named MotoRex actually went to the trouble to get enough R32s imported and run through all the tests. They went on to import R33s and R34s without said tests, and thats when they lost their license.

I dont know if things have changed, but the last I heard R33s and R34s are only legal if they were imported and modified by MotoRex in their days. Again, thats the last I read, it might be different now.

Oh Ok. I never knew that. thats interesting that they did that.

There were a lot of other reasons motorex got shut down. the owner of the company is now in prison for drug charges, kidnapping, assault, etc.

also, you can legally get a car here. it's pretty easy to do. you just can't legally drive it on the roads. you can have a skyline for a track only or full show car. you just can't register and insure it for dd purposes.

If the motor only has 3x,xxx miles, why is there a fresh motor in the car? That throws big warning flags up right away.

"The Catch: The vehicle is still required to meet EPA requirements. If the original engine in the vehicle will be replaced with a non-original engine to meet EPA requirements, it must be identified in your application since it may impact on the technological or historical significance of the vehicle, thereby resulting in a denial of the application. Such permits are rarely granted and are monitored closely."

"
So the only way to make the cars legal is for someone to make an OBD2 conversion for the RB26DETT. As of this writing, JK Technologies asserts that they do the OBDII conversion and that they they do everything needed to make it DOT and EPA compliant. "

"
Many people seem to get confused that if a vehicle is registered, that it is legal or "legalized". A registered vehicle is just a registered vehicle. Registration could still be revoked by the DOT, EPA, or customs service, if the vehicle was found to have entered into the country fraudulently. "

This is from the site you posted.

i don't think its a huge concern.

when's the last time you saw a civic with the stock motor in it? lol

When is the last time a civic cost $45,000? With a civic its quick, cheap, and easy to replace the motor. I would not be messing around with a "classic" car that I keep in a climate controlled garage, thats worth $45,000 if there wasn't something fishy going on.

You wouldn't consider simply swapping out your M engine in most cases, would you?

And to that degree, I wouldn't buy a swapped civic unless I knew the person or company who performed the swap. At a $5,000 investment for most used and modified civics, I have always thought there was far too much risk for the reward.

if i blew it up, or it broke, wtf else am i going to do with it? of course i'd swap it for a new one.

does that epa requirement apply if passing smog is not required in your area?

federal epa has nothing to do with local/state smog.

Exactly, if it blew up or broke. This engine has allegedly been babied. That doesn't send up a warning flag to you?

I mean hell you're entitled to your opinion and the replacement of an engine could simply not be a high priority on your list.

I'm just saying personally if I see a car that the owner claims to have owned responsibly and taken the utmost care of, then I'm going to see big flags go up when the results are incongruent with the alleged behavior.

***I do realize that some people have so much money that they would replace an engine in an M or another car, just like the people that will repaint a car that has a perfect factory paint coat or replace other components that are already very good from the factory.
