alright. i'm doing a mini me swap into my ef si hatch with a z6 head and a a6 block. i got it today, cleaned it up (from a wrecker) and pondered what i'm going to do with it. first i'm going to put it in without vtec to see how it runs and confirm if it needs rebuilding or not. call me what you want but i'm using a used head gasket and bolts just too see it it actually works first (i think its stupid to spend money on something that might not work). then if all goes well i'll take it apart, use a new oem z6 gasket, arp head studs and wire it for vtec. wiring vtec is mainly what i need help with. I AM A NOOB with vtec and need help along the way. i have narrowed it down too 2 desitions; use a Apexi vafc and a chip in the PM6 ecu. or a OBDO to OBDI swap. and i really don't know how to do that. if i do a OBDI swap what happens down the road if i want to put a B16 in my car? and again call me a noob if you must but can i set up a switch to a relay to set off the vtec?(temporarly of course) thanks
 
if you reuse the gasket and bolts,it will run like shit,and it will leak coolant just like a blown headgasket..
you can get away with reusing the bolts,but def. not gasket and bolts,,so i would use a new gasket atleast..as for vtec,just get the conversion harness from www.rywire.com and get a chipped p28.
you can run a b16 off of the chipped p28
 
call me a noob again but what is a "chipped p28"? i know what a p28 is but what is a chip? is it one of thoes $10 chips on eBay?

hell no...do not use a ebay chip..you will send the p28 out and tell them what setup your using,,,
they will chip it to your settings,
when i say setup i mean,motor,car,cam,headwork,motorwork,everything done from the intake to the exhaust
 
would it be possible to get the whole eg si engine wiring harness and a spare a6 wiring harness i have collecting dust to make a wiring harness for my needs? then get a chipped p28 ecu?

rywire will make the hraness if you send them both of those you mentioned..

I'm actually going to sell most of the wiring I have, the OBDI ECU jumper, distributor jumper, and engine harness from a Canadian made '91 Si hatch. It's got OBDI injector clips and the injector block-off plug, instead of the wires just being soldered together. Both jumper harnesses are RyWire.

being the chep sob i am i might try to make my own harness. could i just cut plugs off of the eg harness and solder them to mine? so what does not come with the set up you have? how much do you want?

why do you have a canadian hatch? because you are in cali. and have all that emissions crap?
 
alright, after getting this book (pic.) and researching through pages and pages of info i think i finally figured out what i want to do. if anyone has ever looked at https://hondaswap.com/auto-multi-media/andrews-engine-swap-pics-69736/ its a good read. anyway i think i'm gonna get:
1)OBDO to OBD1 conversion harness (does everyone basically make the same one?)OBD0 TO OBD1 CONVERSION JUMPER HARDNESS 88 91 CIVIC CRX - (eBay.ca item 250244422514 end time 10-May-08 23:38:27 EDT) or take up Blanco's offer
2)injector plugs from the same car i got the head off of
3)injectors off of the same car
4)distributor plugs off the same car, will all of the same wires match up?
5)distributor is there a differance between si vtec engines and non vtec engines? because the car i got the head off of didn't have a dizzy
6)4 wire oxygen sensor plug from the same car i got the head off of
7)4 wire oxygen sensor off the same car (it'll fit in my stock exhaust, wont it?)
and last my book i got said 2 things i dont get. 1st it says i need to get the reverse light plug off the z6 tranny, i dont get it. and 2nd it says i need to lengthen the plug for the fan switch and its connector for that of the donor.do i if i'm using the a6 block? and keep in mind with all of the above i'm going to use my a6 intake manifod, if possible.
and 1 last thing, how do i remove the resistor box? do i connect the red wires with a black stripe togther then to a ground? thats my guess.
anyway comments and input is welcome and furthermore needed, just wanny knoe if its going to work, o ya and i ordered a new z6 timing belt today, thanks

i didn't buy the whole intake main. because someone already took the throttle body off of it. and when you say to repin the distributor does that mean the dizzy plug or the dizzy itself?
 
will a 92-95 civic vx distribotor work, i think its vtec. how can i tell the difference between vtec dizzy and non-vtec dizzy?
 
i almost have enough parts to get everything togther. I do need some imput though. I'm rebuilding a good strong d16a6 block. i want it to be reliable.

i phoned my local honda dealer and they told me who is thier machine shop, so i talked to the guy and this is what i can get done for about $1000
hone the cylinder walls
clean it up
all new bearings
new oil pump
new water pump
new timing belt
probably new nippon pistons
stock or near stock c.r.
arp head studs
new rings
stock bore
all new gaskets

idk what to do with the d16z6 head yet. I'll get him to check it over but idk if i should rebould it, i guess i'll find a motor to test it on first. and i think probably a mild aggresive cam, like the comp 59300. are peformance springs and valves necessary? anyway please give a little bit of imput. this will be a daily driver that will get pushed hard once in awhile. thanks
