Wanna be speed demon.
I was wanting some ideas to make my civic fast enough to keep up with a '86 5.0 mustang with a T-5 in it. I don't got much of a budget so I don't think I could do a engine swap or a turbo kit at the moment. My car is a '89 Civic hatchback DX with the stock 1.5l and a 4 speed manual trans. (Its TBI, throttle bodie injected or dual point)
Also what would I have to do to make it multi port fuel injected and how much difference would that make?

it's called swallow your pride until you have more money to buy a better car.

what you do is find a nice long pier...start at one end,,and try to reach top speed,,but DO NOT brake,,just keep going, and when you get to the end, hold on...but DO NOT attempt to get out of the car afterwards

What should I do next?

Step #1 Go get a better job to buy stuff to make your car go faster.

You're not going to turn a shitty DX motor into a kinda fast car. If you swapped a B18c1 into your Civic then it would be a kinda fast car.

well i would get rid of that 4 spd tranny... swap ur car over to mpfi.. get a y8 manifold.. h/i/e... and call it a day.. cuz from the looks of it you dont really have that much of a budget... you'll feel a pretty big difference.... but nothing extremely fast

Here in a few days ill be getting a mpfi system out of a crx (basicly the whole engine... the head would be better than mine I know but how difficult is this and what all do I need to get for it? (wires, ect)

research it..... duel point to mpfi.... google it or look on here..... it doesnt take that long if you know what your doing.. if the motor is good take the whole engine then tranny and all... that would be better than the d15

Fast is all relative. Fast over here is 250km/h +.

But yeah, don't mess with your car, just buy a toy car to mess with. Intake, exaust headers, and exhaust are probably your best bet. While you're doing that, I'd do the dual point to multi-point. You'll want to look for a y8 intake manifold or a z6 manifold, as those flow best.

Welcome to the land of dumping money into your car just to gain 2mph on your top speed! Hide your wallet.

Hondas are kind of like school when you are a noob. You need to do your homework to make it. You need to research and read up on stuff. Dont just ask and agree. I mean, i could tell you to build you stock d15 with all these parts. And what im sayin may sound good to you in reality, building a d15 is silly. Just look at swap articles, parts, etc. You could for now, go dpfi-mpfi and mini me it. which is d15 block and d16 head. all you really gain is vtec which isnt much. but its a start? are you new to hondas?

dude just save your money and put a d16z6 in there and a 50 shot and that will be plenty for a old 5.0 stang

it just depends where the info comes from, like if it comes from blanco im just doing it that simple. but it is best to research and a d series can be just as much of a best as the next motor
