Default quick question...h22 swap..

will the usdm ecu work on the jdm motor?? i have a 96 jdm prelude motor in my 97 accord (so their both obd2) and the ecu that came with the swap was for manuals (i left it auto). i've found a couple 96 usdm A/T ecu's but was wondering if it will actually work on the jdm motor?

let me rephrase this now.... will an h23 ecu work with an h22 motor?? both are 96's..my car is automatic..and from what i've been hearing..the vtec models for that year only came in manual...true?? my motor is a jdm motor.

H23 ECU will not work with an H22 because it is not designed for a VTEC engine. If you have an H22 in your auto Accord I'm pretty sure you will need the JDM auto ECU and TCM to make it work right.

thanks, but wouldnt a 96 motor be considered obd2?? wouldnt that also mean that the TCM would be with the ECU?? connected i mean or joined...and yes i kinda figured it wouldnt work, do you know anywhere or any site that i can try to get the ECU from?? a 96 ECU that is??

I had a friend who had a 2000 Civic with an OBD0 Engine. The car drove awsome but they wouldn't pass his emissions. He ended up trading the engine for a new GSR engine. Car still drives fine and now he can pass emissions.

Unless you can find some shop guy to pass you, I don't think it's possible to legally pass emissions if you do an OBD2 to OBD1 Conversion.

i've read somewhere that jdm ecu's dont have the immobilizers for 97+. is that true?? if so, i should be able to use the jdm p5m ecu correct?? heres the link...

ok I did the same thing you have done here with my car (aside from yours being jdm, but that doesn't matter) So to pass emissions you will need to use a 97 accord ecu. The car will run on it, just limp it around of course. Drive it for at least 24 hours (a complete cold start is required to run all the checks) then when you have no check engine lights take it to emmissions. Now once your done with emissions change to obd1 get it chipped and tuned. I would go with a p13 or p72 when you convert to obd1( and you must get it tuned). The p72 will allow the for a special control that lengthens the intake runners and give you more low end horsepower. I'm running a p72 tuned off of crome. Hope this helps, I log on very rarely now so if your confused let me know and I'll try to get back to you soon.

thanks. finally haha, this helps alot. i have the p13 ecu but what do you mean by limp mode?? here's another problem that my car's goin through right now, from what i heard when i went to check on it, my tech told me my car was running too rich. i'm running on my 97 accord ecu right now because i gotta wait for the conversion harness to come in. new spark plugs/wires and cap. we test drove it around the block and below 1000 rpm my car would stutter and when i come to a complete stop, i have to rev my motor alteast up to 1000 rpm or a lil higher to keep it from completely dying. but anything above 1000 rpm the car would drive fine. its only when i'm below 1000 rpm that my car stutters and i have to keep revving my engine. any ideas what that is??

Not a limp mode, I just meant drive the car easy. Running the accord ecu it should run lean but maybe not. So if you have no check engine lights I'd head to get the emmisions done and then once you get your conversion harness you'll be good to go. Oh just a note my h22 runs best at 12.0 to 12.5 AFR so when you get it tuned let them know that and it should be a good starting point.

You would need to pull the code and then we'll determine it from there.

I've been checking back everyday, and there are alot of others on here that can help with check engine codes, They are probably better at that than I am. So just let us know. And good luck.

well an answer to your stutter problem could also be your secondary butterfly's in the intake manifold arent opening because the p13, and p72 are the only ECU's i know of that run the secondaries, i had this problem before thats why i thought i would tell ya, good luck man....

P72 will work if you chip it for the h22a, and so will the p28 is its chipped also....the p13 is the stock ECU for the h22a and i have only used JDM ecu's n products, so couldn't tell you about the USDM.

the p72 will cost about $100 maybe less maybe more to chip n basemap it for the h22a, so p13 would be you easiest bet unless you got future plans for the motor than use the p72 or p28 and find a tuner who will chip it and program it....

thanks man, you've used JDM ecu's, so do you know if they have immobilizers for 97+?? cuz if not, i'mma probably get a 97+ p72 so i can pass emissions
