Hey all, I'm a new member who recently found himself the owner of a near immaculate '78 cvcc 1200 (near meaning blown head gasket possibly bad main bearings, never heard it run) for 300 dollars and most of an 89 integra with a strong running engine for 1000 dollars (probly hot but dont ask dont tell). I am very very interested in getting the engine from the teg into the cvcc. In researching, I believe the teg motor is a zc or a d16a something or other. I know it's DOHC with MPFI and a 5 speed stick. My main concern is whether this size engine/trans will even fit into the cvcc engine bay. So if any one knows about anything similar thats been done to a cvcc. I would greatly appreciate a reference as I have other issues such as shift linkage, wiring, axles, and a myriad of other "problems" that are the reason we all love these types of projects. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

never heard of anyone doing it to such an old civic, but this is gonna be a 100% custom job. I dont think anyone is gonna make mounts for it, you have to convert the wire harness not only to use a computer, but to control injectors and lose all those vacuum hoses.

In the end, itd probably be easier to get an ECU like fast or megasquirt and only wire up the sensors that you actually need.

stock ecu

ya the plan is to use the stock ecu and all wiring from the teg and gut out anything that has to do with the 1200. Like I said I have everything to make the teg engine run, and had it running before i started tearin it down. I have a welder so I can make my own mounts, but I was wondering if anyone could make custom drivelines for this type of application. I also have questions on what the difference is between a ZC and a D16 engine.

shift linkage

o and one more thing is if anyone knows anything about adapting the shift linkage.

SOHC or DOHC? JDM SOHC ZC (non-VTEC) is basically the same as a D16A6 - the JDM "browntop" DOHC ZC is basically the same as the 86-87 Integra D16A1 and came in the JDM 84-87 CRX and Civic Si models - there is also a JDM DOHC ZC which is basically the same as the 88-89 D16A1 (looks just like a "browntop", but has a black valve cover) and came in the JDM 1st gen Integras - the JDM DOHC ZC that came in the JDM 88-91 CRX Si and Civic Si is a completely different engine and is more like the D16A6 than the D16A1 - the only 88-91 ZC parts that are the same as the 86-87 D16A1 are the valves, valve springs and retainers and rocker arms - everything else is different - the 88-89 D16A1 had a few additional parts which were the same as the ZC - pistons, distributor, CYLinder position sensor and throttle body - everything else on the D16A1 engines (block, head, crankshaft, rods, oil pump, water pump, pistons on 86-87, timing gears, timing belt, timing gear cover, engine mounts, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, camshafts, valve cover, flywheel, oil pan and oil pump pick-up) are different from the 88-91 JDM DOHC ZC

Forget it. Although a classic, the cvcc is a fugly car. It has been done, but with a great amount of expense and fabrication. If you are trying to do it on the cheap, this project is not for you.

As far as you using parts from a stolen car.. I hope you get cought and spend some time with bubba in a jail cell. Its little shits like you that cost us enthusiats so much money and grief when our cars get stolen. Thanks for supporting those who steal from us.

Ass hat.

I'd like to make a motion for a ban on this loser.

Thanks jlicrx for the helpful info. Since my motor is USDM, DOHC, black valve cover, and from an 89, I asume it's a D16A1, (let me know if I misinterpreted your explanation) which will be useful to know when i go to steal other parts for my car :) jk. Phyre, take a chill. I bought the car from a legitimate junk dealer. As for the project not being cheap or easy, who the hell wants a cheap easy B swap into a mid nineties civic so I can be just like all the other GI duchebags and highschool kids with rich parents? I'd rather do a project thats gonna be difficult and come out with something unique and classy, a sleeper that will surprise the hell out of those pricks who bolt a spoiler to their trunklid and call it a tuner. O and bubba sends his regards, he says he misses you.

that is correct - the 88-89 D16A1s are the same - the 86-87 D16A1s are a little different from the 88-89 - they have a vacuum advance ignition system and a terrible intake manifold/throttle body - other than that (and the pistons) they are all the same - the shift linkage shouldn't be a problem - just use the Integra one and shorten or lengthen it as needed - if you want to be a little more different (and spend a little more money), you could run a pair of dual Weber carbs on it and save all the hassle with wiring it - you wouldn't need all of that wiring or the ECU, sensors, etc. - you also wouldn't need to install a pressurized fuel system, which you will need to do with the fuel injection - here is our DOHC ZC with Webers

bitchin carbed ZC. While I see the advantages of a simpler carbed system, I can't justify it when I already have the stuff for MPFI. Now when u say the 88-89 d16a1 is the same, do u mean same as the JDM DOHC ZC, or that the 88 is the same as the 89? Also I am obviously goin to rebuild the teg motor, so I was wondering if you know of a good setup for the internals (pistons, rods, crank, valvetrain) and an intake/exhaust that would work with NA, but could have forced induction added later. I've heard bad things about sroking these engines as they are for high revs and not low end torque. I'm not tryin to build a dragster, but I'd like a car that could scare the $hit out of some mustang owners I know.

Thanks

Thanks to those who have responded to this thread. In researching further, i found that although similiar projects have been done before, none of them have been well documented. So, I feel it to be my responsibility to those out there who share my enthusiasm for classic honda hatches to record step by step, this entire project. I am by no means a professional, but i know that my enthusiasm and the wonderful technical resource that this site and sites similar provide will more than adequately make up fo my ignorance. Wish me luck, anything i don't already know, I'm about to find out. If you would like pics of the project as it progresses, email me at klyph333@hotmail.com, I'd be happy to share any and all of my findings.

Parts

O and by the way... If anyone needs parts for a cvcc 1200 engine or transmission, I have everything for sale and for cheap. I will post this in the appropriate forum with contact info.

i've wanted to drop a b16 in one of these.. goodluck...
