Lightbulb Rex's D16y8 Build

I figured it was time to open a thread with my Crx and document the steps I will be taking with my D16y8 so I can backtrack if anything goes wrong in the future. I will be posting a few pictures today and later on in the week of the y8 and my plans for the swap. I am running a D16a6 in my Si right now and will continue using it as a DD untill my y8 is a complete engine.

I do have questions, considering it is an OBDII engine I would like to make sure I have everything needed for the build before I swap. I already have a chipped PM6 using Turbo Edit and I am trying to find a OBD0 base map to go off of. Any ideas or do I just run the D16a6 map and wire the vtec? Also will I be changing injectors, Intake Mani, or the Dizzy to keep my OBD0? Just a few questions for now to get me started in the right drection. I know there are numerous threads for this swap but I have not found a good one with all the details yet. I guess this will be one by the time I am finished.

Bumping with some new images of the build, the block was spray painted black when I got it. bleh yuck, I want a clean build!

The Block:

Crank:

Cylinders:

It had a little rust here and there and there was a big blob of blue rvt beside the oil filter adapter but besides that it's in fairly good condition. I will be using income tax to finish the build with a vitara turbo setup. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I don't really have a goal because I do not want to be disappointed and I do not expect a lot out of a D-Series but if I can hit the 300hp mark I will be very pleased. Thanks Honda Swap...

Eagle H-Beam Rods and Vitara Pistons, 8.5:1 compression and a t3/t4 .50 A/R .63 Hot and little parts here and there. I will need the luck, but that's what Honda Swap is for right? Any positive feedback or info would be helpful. I will probably keep it 75mm and use a block guard?

no need for the block guard, but it is extra reassurance...
heres a little tip..let the block sit outside right up until your ready to assemble..take it to the machine shop and have them clean it up and hone it..i know it sounds retarded but thats what our local machine shop guy does and for some wierd reason it strenghtens the cylinder walls and gives a great hone..

Fucking weird Injen...? I am going to hone the cylinders myself but if that works I will go for it! Just trying to figure out how that would strengthen a block. Heating up and cooling off from hot and cold weather or something? I love secret ways to enhance your vehicles performance. If you remove the cloth stripping from the bottom of your hood it adds 1hp and keeps your engine cooler, change to synthetic oil 1hp, Wipe light shampoo and water on your windshield and it will keep it from fogging, Baking soda and a wet rag will repel rain like rain--x. There are so many of these gems we need an epic thread for it. I want to know more of these secrets you guys are hiding from me. lol

Hmm.. IDK? I will be running oil everywhere when I am finished so that would suck to lose pressure or oil in certain areas. I will have a oil cooler, catch can and lines going through the valve cover and I am tapping into the oil pan too so hopefully it does not end up like this:

I would cry...

Okay, I looked it up and you are right once again Injen! The Y8 Cranks only have one oil supply hole and the D16a6 has two, which makes it more reliable. So my next question is should I use the a6 Crank in the y8 block? They look almost exactly the same. I don't think it would have any clearance issues.

There is a small difference I noticed, The Y8 crank supports power steering and the a6 does not... Meh, who needs power steering? I just don't want the compression to go any higher than it has to and I need all the clearance.

Fuck yeah man, thanks I was hoping for that answer. When I get all the parts gathered up I will swap them out. What would be a better head to use? I have the a6 and the y8. I was thinking the y8 head with a6 intake, TB, dizzy and dsm injectors. I want low compression and high boost?

Cool, well I loaned my Camera to friends having a baby, so as soon as they get out I will be able to post more pics up lol. Hopefully good ones, I have been wanting to capture video of my nasty 2-step but there will not be much progress until I get some extra cash flow.

Well my friends made it out of the Hospital okay, So I will be updating with more Y8 Goodies soon but untill then, here are the images from my last build! My Old D16Z6... We ended up swapping this into my buddies crx and selling it, you can see it in one of the pictures. Enjoy:

I bought my old civic off of a friend after 250k miles and a spun bearing.

Don't judge me, my friends got bored with the spray paint.

The Bay

Honed the Cylinders. I am a clean Freak when it comes to my engines...

Head -

Complete:

I Riced out my Dizzy, but it was cool to watch at night!

Hopefully my next build will go as easy as this one was but I will be keeping it a little bit longer unless I get an offer I can't resist on it. Every man has his price lol.

Oh yah, this is the D16a6 in my DD Crx as of now, Once it's out I will tuck all the hoses, lines and wires...
