Ok my friend has a d16z6 in a 91 civic hatch. The civic has the base 4spd manual tranny (I believe it's the STD model). We are having a prob finding a CRX Si tranny.
I was thinking could we use a ZC tranny w/ LSD in the Civic. I belive we have to use the Integra even axles, and DX hubs. Is this right? does the ZC even bolt on to the d16z6 motor? Some one school me on these trannys please __________________

Yes, you can use the ZC transmission with LSD in the Civic; although the (equal length) ZC axles are the correct one and DX hub is required with those axles. An alternative is just swapping out the differential in the ZC transmission for a 88-98 Si one and using the stock axles.
Yes, the ZC bolts onto the D16Z6. The ZC is pretty much a D16A6. __________________

Ok the DX hubs should be a easy junkyard pick-up.
On the axles we may have to buy new, I dont recall seeing any ZC's in the yard. I was hoping I could use DA axles and half shaft. The plan is to get the ZC and then a hydro Si final drive, would the 92-95 Si FD work with the ZC LSD? __________________

the DA intermediate shaft will not work with the D-series engine - the bolt pattern where it bolts to the back of the block is different - only the JDM ZC intermediate shaft will work - also, the D16Z6 block does not have the holes tapped in the back of the block to bolt the intermediate shaft on

finding a ZC transmission with LSD is going to be tough as most ZC transmissions don't have LSD __________________

![]() So if the ZC tranny intermediate shaft will work, does it not bolt to the back of the block? Found the tranny from Hmotorsonline this is thier description: "ZC DOHC LSD Cable Transmission - 5 Speed Trasmission, Will only work with ZC SOHC or DOHC" __________________

Actually, that is incorrect. A 92-95 differential will indeed work in a L3 transmission. I have a 92-95 EX differential in my DOHC ZC transmission and had zero issues. Just make sure it is shimmed correctly. Transzex even suggested using 92-95 differentials due to it eliminating the differential pin issues found in the 88-91 differentials.

Their description is somewhat true. The SOHC ZC is pretty much a D16A6, and the bolt patterns between the 88-00 D-series are the same. I have a DOHC ZC transmission mated to a D15B-VTEC...a D16Z6 "equivilant." Where the difference lays is the intermediate shaft. The ZC's already have the holes threaded and everything for the half shalf IIRC. A simple differential swap or installing a intermediate shaft will make it work. __________________
