Default b-series vs h-series trans weight

A friend of mine wants to swap an H22a into his 95 coupe, but wants to try one of those H2B kits (i'm not too familiar with them) to avoid using the h-series transmission and cables.

The H22 weights more then the B-series, but how much of that extra weight is due to the tranny vs the engine itself? How much weight is saved when going from the h-series tranny to the b-series trannny?

not enough to make it worthwhile.

the only reason i would go to a b-tranny is for gearing and lsd. weight is negligible.

are the b-series trannys any stronger then the H-series? those H2B's are about $1300...ouch, has anybody here tried one of these swaps?

h-series have really long gears. strength is undefined in those terms. it's not like a b20 block vs. F22 block.

you can find used h2b for a lot less if you search around. i have seen great 1/4 mile times with the h2b in eg's.

do you know if the H2B's have any axle issues?

also outta curiosity what about the F20B, is it basically a destroked H22a or is it a lighter motor?

It's pretty much a destroked H22. The weight difference would be negligable...

you have reached the extent of useful information. the odds of swapping any type of tranny or mating up unmatching parts is pointless. just get the h22 tranny and deal with the cable or spend the money on h2b. the cable isn't hard to deal with and just feel like a shifter in an RWD tranny.

Thanks, thats what I figured.

I'm thinking he should do an H22a w/ GSR transmission or F20B w/ ITR transmsission, since I'm not sure if the ITR tranny might have too short of gears for the H22 and the F20b SIR-T has a much higher redline of 8200RPM I believe
