Hey guys I found this site a while ago and would read up every so often and finally decided to create an account.

Just some info on my car...it's a 1994 civic coupe Si(canadian model) and I am in need of a swap.

My buddie is able to get me a b18a with tranny, wiring harness, motor and IM/EX manifolds for $100.00
Now I have searched and have looked and read the swap articles but I would like some feedback from anybody that has done this swap before.
I pretty much know what parts I will still need to pickup but what is the major difference between the b18a and b18b motor? the TQ is the same but I belive the HP is different.

Any advice on this swap? I know it's a hard swap and the tranny is cable but I will be looking for a hydrolic transmission as well as the other parts I need to buy to complete the swap.

I was hoping to have the motor rebuilt and possibly have a Vtec head bolted on and do a LS/Vtec "conversion" and get a set of ITB's and have the engine all motor. I am not your car n00b so I have done some research about this in the daytime as I've known about the deal for a few hours now.

please let me know and help me get rid of my stock d16z6 engine and get something stronger and more reliable in there.

Thanks
bart

edit: all work will be done by my friend(s) and I so no paying a shop to do this

Welcome to Hondaswap!

The B18 into the EG chassis is relatively easy. You can use all OEM mounts, and you can use all the OEM wiring too. It's almost a straight drop-in replacement for the D. One of the reasons why you're probably getting such a great price on the B18A is because it's most likely a non-OBD engine. If it is, you'll have to do a bit of rewiring and part swapping to get it to run properly in your OBD1 car. You might want to check the engine and make sure its OBD revision matches your chassis- otherwise you'll have a ton of fun wiring everything up.

Good luck.

Thanks for the welcome.
What do you mean check the OBD revision? is there a code I would look for then check it up on a site or how would I find that out?

My friend who would be helping me with the swap will be doing the b16a1 into his EG so he would know what to do but I also would like to have the satisfaction of understanding whats going on with the wiring.

OBD = On Board Diagnostics. In Honda it is a general discription of generations, and compatibility.

OBD 0 means that it was made before 92, 92-95 OBD I, 96-98 OBD IIa, 99+ OBD IIb.

Basically the plugs on the motors and ECUs changed with the generations, so staying within you OBD generation, means it's easier to swap without extra parts to make things fit.

You can look at the head on the front, under the stock heatshield above the exhaust ports on the lafthandside, and there are a series of numbers, the one on the left is the date.

Thanks for the response.

The swap I'm getting is from a 1991 integra. Does anybody have any links that would inform me exactly what I need to do to get this swap into my car?

From what I read I need 96+ integra axles, hydro transmission or cable-hydro conversion, the stock wiring harness I belive I can still use but I'm not sure about the throttle cable or what I would do with the engine/transmission mounts.

ok, i've done this swap before and changing from obd0 to obd1 isn't that difficult. i used my stock civic harness and i only had to lengthen a couple wires for it to reach properly. but you should try to get the stock harness from the b18a motor cause it will make running the wires for the fuel rail and injectors easier.

you will also need a distributor and alternator from a 92+ integra or a 94+ dels sol VTEC. the alternator you can actually get from any b-series but to get it to be plugnplay you would need to hack the plugs.

you can take all the sensors off your d-series tb, but you will need an obd1 b-series throttle body.

i'm not sure what axles you need, i am running a hydro tranny mated to a b18a block. i'm running 99-00 civic si axles and the drivers side cv shaft seal leaks bad. i've replaced the seal 2 times and it doesn't help. i lose about a pint of tranny fluid every 200 miles. i am going to try a set of 2nd gen teg axles once i have enough money to buy them.

that's all i can think off, pm me if you need any further help.
