I swapped a ITR (B18C5) in my 96 ek and I noticed it burns about a quart of oil every 1000 miles.The engine came out of a 01 teg with 27,000 on it.It doesn't leak but I do drive about 80 miles a day (all freeway).Is this normal?

so it burns 3 quarts every oil change, that is a little excessive, all honda's nurn oil, but usually only at the high rpms, maybe the engine has a bunch more miles on it than you think and the rings and valve seals are going.

I do sometimes get on it but only once a day (getting on the freeway).You might be right about the mileage but I did see the car it came out of and the odometer showed 27,000 could it be the oil I run in it? 5w 30 full senthetic.

ok, i'm going to be nice and not flame you. think about this, did the b18c5 come factory in an '01 integra? if you got the motor out of a '94 integra with 1,000 miles on it would you still believe the engine had only 1,000 miles. not likely. someone swapped in the engine and beat it to shit. then sold it to you.

if i was you, luckily i'm not, i would check the compression. you will probably have low compression in at least 1 cylinder. then i would pull the motor, put in new piston rings in and upgrade the head gasket. change the water pump and timing belt while you have it out. odds are you have a bad ring that is leaking oil. if you hear a tapping from your engine, you could have bad valves also. being revved extremely high by the previous owner would cause that.

Normally its not the valves that go bad (as that would be low compression and not a loss of oil) but its the valve seals that leak and cause you to burn oil.

Either way, if the motor genuinely has 27,000 miles on it, then there is definately something wrong with it, possibly the engine was never broken in properly and the rings never seated properly in the piston grooves, or it could be the fact that you are using the synthetic oil
From what I have heard honda engines don't generally like synthetic, and it is recommended to use regular motor oil or semi-syn. I could be wrong about this, but you would have to get other people's opinions that use synthetic.
As far as I know the only honda that recommends synthetic is the new acura RDX, my stepmom has one and it says IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL to use Mobil 1 (something about the turbo)
I have never put synthetic in any of my honda's and no one I personally know does.

Nick is right though, and like I said in the first place the engine could have higher miles than the car, or it could have just been beat for 27,000 miles. All depends on who owned it and how it was taken care of etc. etc.

Yeah he was in a hurry to FLAME ME. The teg it came out of was a 2001 rolled 3 times all that remained was the engine. I ran the engine ID with the vehicle ID and it matched up.So it wasn't a swapped motor "beat to shit".Also I did do a compression check genius and I'm glad your not me either.

The car belonged to my friend who's a marine who let it set for years at his dads while he served.He said he didn't drive it hard but how do you explain the roll-over?.I call bullshit.Thanks for info welfare.Didn't want to hear that but thats probably the truth.TRUTH HURTS!

If he let it sits for years, then that can dry out seals. Cars that are stored are suppose to be started every once in a while.

His dad used it a grocery getter every once in a while and also put that fuel stabilizer in the tank.

True, also if the oil wasn't changed every 3 months regardless of mileage it would cause the oil to seperate and not do its job correctly, also causing wear to certain parts......
I would just re-build the engine, I know a really good re-builder in the upstate NY area if you are interested, or try to find a good one where you live, make sure they use genuine honda (or acura) parts, or good aftermarket. Don't trust a Type-R to some jackhole with a wrench.
