Draining old gas?

How do you drain gas out of your tank? I haven't driven the car in 3 years and it has 1/2 a tank of gas in it. I need to get it out of there before I drop my itr in. How do you get it out of there? And what do you do with half a tank of old gas? I'd burn it on a brush pile, but the smoke would be really black wouldn't it? That would probably piss off the neighbors. Any thoughts?

Big bucket or like a trash can or something? How long are the lines? Turn the key, but not try to start the car?

Position 2 (last before starter position) on the ignition will prime the fuel pump- that will attempt to pressurize the fuel line and run the pump. You can do that, or find a drain plug on the fuel tank and just drain it that way (not sure if our tanks have a drain hole or not).

You could always use a long straw, drop it in the fuel filler hole, then suck it all out.

:lmao:

DON'T try that!

I would drain the gasoline into a few 5 gallon fuel jugs or something... then you can probably take it to a service station to dispose of it. Ask some of the gas stations in your area if they can help you with something like that. Don't use a trash can or any other kind of open top container- the fumes coming off the gasoline can produce a VERY hazardous condition. You don't want to accidentally start a fire or blow something up.

Mike, there are drain plugs on the gas tank's of at least my sol and integra.

As for siphioning it. I found an article on line that used some fluid property, gravity, and a few other things that made siphioning gas possible without having you get a mouth full of gas. I tried to do it, and it really doesn't work because honda did a cleveler little thing and put a little "trap door" towards the bottom of the filler neck. You can stick the hose about 24-30 inches in there, then it just doesn't want to go any further.

Make sure that you do this in a very well ventaled area with no electrical stuff going on. If you turn on a light and something arcs...well nice knowing you.

Once you actually do think you have it done, run some fuel system cleaner, run a tank or 2 through it, ect. If gas sits for a very long time, it is going to turn gummy.

Also, with the "undo the fuel filter to fuel rail method" that would be extremly unsafe. Now, your running a stream of gas with a ton of vapor, and your using your electrical system. when you drain your gas, you do not want the car to even have the battery hooked up.

dido i used a siphon and went from inside the car right out the fuel pump hole ( i have it stripped

I have one of those emergency kits with the little squeeze thing to siphon gas, and it works so much better then the old hose and mouth method also.

another trich is to put the hose down and use an air compressor to force air in to the tank as air goes in gas comes out the hose

nevermind, found it in the helms :)

Yup. I knew there had to be a drain plug somewhere- I've just never needed it, so I've never looked to see where it was... now I'll have to drain the CRX before I move it out of the garage.

Give me the GAS! at 2.11$ gal it aint no joke and besides my trans am will fuckin slop that shit up and spit it out its exhaust pipe in a few seconds ;)

BAD gas.....Baaaaaaaad gas

Sure- you can have it... but it probably won't be any good since it's been sitting for a few months.
