Hello guys, ever since I changed my brakes to big discs, everytime I stop my car and pull the handbrake it makes a squeaky noise. Especially when you shake the car or try to push it around. Is there a way to fix this?

maybe it is the pad compound. my big brakes do this on my lancer. im running hawk HPS up front and EBC green in the rear.

did you use any brake parts grease on the pad to caliper surfaces?

I don't think I have applied any sort of grease..but I did machine the disc before installing as it was stuttering when I brake during high speeds (it was a used disc). Anyway, I'm quite a newbie in cars and have a few noob questions:-

1. I noticed something in my friend's Integra the other day. He has two air filters! One is the big one that goes out of the intake manifold and the other is a tiny one jutting out of the engine top head. I looked at mine at noticed that mine had some kind of tube connected to it that leads to somewhere I was too lazy to find out. What is that tiny air filter for? Oh yeah, we're both having B18C Type Rs.

2. My car produces a 'clicking' sound when I turn on the aircon. I've asked around and they keep telling me different things. One being my engine oil, my tap pads, my pulley, crank shaft, air con compressor, clutch etc. I think its most probably the clutch or flywheel because when I floor my clutch, the sound stops. What exactly is the problem? Note: I just machined my flywheel..but the sound was there before that anyway.

If its your parking brake thats causing the noise then I'd check your parking brake cable or rear brakes, they could be out of adjustment. It shouldn't have anything to do with your bigger front discs if the car is already stopped ( I'm assuming that its the front brakes you upgraded since you didnt specify, but if you converted drums to discs then check you PB cable adjustment)

The small filter is coming out of the valve cover. On a stock filter assembly the tube dumps back into you intake. On an aftermarket on you can just put a breather (small air filter ) on the valve cover. I'll assume that you friend has on aftermarket air filter!

Crankcase ventalation! The small tube that comes out of the valve cover and goes into the air tube in between the air filter and throttle body!

Look at any engine and it will have an oil breather. Or Positive Crankcase Ventalation ( PCV )
So the crank case doesn't buils up pressure and blow out seals! Stock engines pull a little bit of vacuum through the air tube. Aftermarket filter don't have a place for this usually so you have to run a OIL BREATHER on the valve cover so you don't just spill oil all over your engine. It let's the engine breath.....

how about, run a tube from the valvecover ventilation port to the PCV catch can? that's my idea i was about to try on my B16, and havnt looked around to see if anyone else has before.

You don't really wanna do that Legal.

You will probably end up losing about a half a quart of oil after each oil change. I may be wrong but that oil breather is pretty much to prevent oil from going out from the valve cover.

There isn't a PVC catch can on your car. You generally only find these on dedicated race cars. They do this so you don't have any oil spillage on the track. Plus you would have to empty it on a routin bases. Just plug it into your air filter tube and let it work the way the Honda engineers designed it to.

vac from the intake arm sucks the blow by from the valve cover on a typical system.

my B16 has a recirculating catch can. it's located on the back. i have a '95 B16A SiR-II (JDM). the pcv system goes to it. the manifold gives it vac, and contamanents go back into the oil.

why not route the valve cover vent to the recirculating catch can?

by just putting a filter on the valve cover vent, you are removing the vac. so i wouldnt do that to begin with. it needs vac.

That recirculating catch can is for fuel vapors. Like I was saying it would be better to leave it in the air intake tube, but for those who chose to run a different air filter system like a cold air intake, sometimes they do not have provisions for this and you have to run a oil breather.

That filter assists the PCV system. All it does is allow the engine to breathe, thus preventing high pressure in the crankcase, upward. No oil comes out of it.
