89 LS tempature guage issue. Please help
Thanks in advance to anybody that helps out. A friend has an 89 LS and the tempature guage maxes out after about 5 minutes of driving, but when you open the hood the fan is running and the car is not overheating. The check engine light will come on a few minutes after the temp guage maxes out too. I opened the radiator and it was full. So I'm wondering is the guage bad and this is also causing the check engine light to come on or is it a sensor or something else? Any help is appreciated.
