Default Going to NTB for tire mounting? Don't.

UPDATE: They're buying me new wheels.

I'm pissed. Expensive wheels + expensive tires + NTB = everything f--k-d up.

On top of this, they charged me an extra $10 (without telling me they were going to do it) because 55-series tires are "low profile." I spoke to the manager about this and he said I should come in and he'll take a look at it.

Then there are 6 of these on every wheel....

They left the sticky crap from the old weights all over the inside of the wheels too. Not cool.

I called BBB, and they now have the pictures in their email, along with pictures of the wheels before, and the names of the people I dealt with.

The national office of NTB was absolutely no help at all.

holy shit.
i would keep complaining to anybody and everybody.

they need to maintain their machines.
theres supposed to be some rubber on the machine that grips the wheel (the gouges on the inside of the wheel) so as to not do that.
basically, they wore them off and are too cheap and lazy to replace that shit.

I would keep calling anybody and everybody until they replace the wheels.
call some local news places, they eat that kind of shit up.

do you really expect the news to give a shit about some light scratches and some small dimples in the rims??? really??? take a look at all of the curb damage on most car's rims out there... no one will give a shit... oh wow your rims were "ruined" and they still look better than mine... that shit is definitely not going to sell news

i'm still trying to find the expensive wheels and tires in this thread

sucks that they fucked it up, but it's just a wheel. find a shop that doesn't suck and get to know the owner. anytime i show up, i get taken care of by the best guy at the shop because the owner tells the other kids not to touch my stuff.

down here, any time the media can bash a business or shop, they jump on it.
doesnt matter how little it is, they find a way to blow it out of proportion.

people love to hate car repair shops.

Got back from the shop. The Manager's face turned red when he looked at the wheels, and I think he pooped. (thinking that they were real Volks. lol.)

The Manager looked at each one, and got more and more pissed, then finally said "well, this guy isn't going to be working here anymore. You can find some place to get them painted again, but with the color you have, it's never going to be the same, it'll be really hard to match." He and I talked for a bit, and he agreed to replace them with new wheels of the same type.

I'm still fucking pissed, but at least now I have some closure, and they're going to try to make it right.

I just hope they don't fuck up the tires when they dismount/remount....

Yeah, well, it's expensive for a shitbox. kthx.

I'm pretty sure he's gonna remember me from now on. It'll be interesting when I get my set of Wanatabe wheels and have to get tires mounted on those.

Yeah, I was all ready to bust out the pictures of the wheels on my iPhone before I took them to get remounted. Instead I was pleasantly surprised.

i don't think the guy deserves to get fired over that though. he's probably new and gets paid $8.50/hr.

nice to see the manager step it up, I'd go to that shop just because of that reason.
Then again, I wonder how he would have acted if they were a set of volks for my Z, that alone would be around $4k

Last time I had tires mounted (MR TIRE) on the Z, I took the wheels off the car (they sure as hell are not touching my car) I took the wheels in, took pictures of them from all angles and asked the guy to be careful, they loaded the wheels up with soooo much wax/who knows what else but there was not a single mark on them other then a lot of cleaning needed. They did a kick ass job other then snagging one of my valve caps.

fuckers.

He thought they were Volks. He walked out and looked at the car and he muttered "Fuck."

He offered to pay to have them repainted, I declined and said that they'd never be the same. I told him "these aren't Volks, these are the Konig wheels." He asked if I had receipts, and then offered to replace them.

I actually plan on going back to this place.

Do I think the kid who fucked them up deserved to be fired? No, not by this alone, but chances are if he did this shitty of a job, he does it all the time. I mean, answer your cell phone with a tire half-way on the wheel? Fucktard. But, if I was his boss, and he just cost me at minimum $400, I'd can his ass before he could cost me much more. I have no sympathy for the asshat.

They did a good job balancing, but It'd kinda hard to fuck up a quality tire on a good wheel. There are no shakes, no shimmy, and the new rubber feels pretty good. It's a little harder to turn, and it fights me a bit more than it used to, just stiff sidewalls.

I have one guy, a friend's brother who is a stoner from hell, but he bounces from tires shop to tire shop for work. When I need tire work done here, I track him down and have him do it. He's mounted at least a dozen low profile tires for me and has never left a single mark.

Firestone here will strip a lug nut onto your lug, claim it came that way (I am anal about finger tightening, then torquing to spec, so I know they are full of shit) and charge you $40 to replace it. It happened to me three times. I argued my way out of it every time, but they need to vary their scam a little.. Its blindingly obvious.

Wal-mart here mounts tires with a chain saw. I had them mount a set once, and I found the rim of my alloy wheels (didn't even have a fucking lip to put a weight on) with weights hammered to the outer edges of all of them. Dinged them up horribly bad. I was furious and complained, turned them in to the BBB, etc. Nothing ever came of it, and I wasn't going to lawyer up and sue over a $800 set of wheels They knew it.

Its sad that you can't get rubber put on a wheel in this town without getting raped in the ass. Its not that fucking hard.

I meant more so higher end/size.

Volks in 15s or 16x 7.5 or 8.5 cost next to nothing VS a 19 or 20" x 10.5" wide wheel

Either way, for any shop to buy a new $100.00 wheel or $800.00 wheel, its something that will most likely go through insurance and will mean the same outcome.

Another insurance claim no matter little or big.

Its sad that you can't get rubber put on a wheel in this town without getting raped in the ass. Its not that fucking hard.
You had walmart mount some tires? that's bawlzy.

Does this mean you wont try and talk them into attempting to change your 1000RR rear tire?

lol, i would never go to walmart for anything, ANYTHING to do with my car.

i worked at valvoline for a little while a couple of years ago.
we had one guy come through with a ford explorer, i had myself in the pit, with a wrench on the drain plug, a 3.5 foot massive breaker bar attached to it, and a girl up top pushing with me.
just to break the drain plug loose. it was fucking crazy.
and the last people to touch the car? Walmart.
