they are sold in 40 lb bags.

from the 3 hours i ran it last night, i used roughly 1/20th of the bag. the stove holds an entire bag perfectly.

a bag should last me about 40-50 hours of use.... slightly less on higher settings (feeds faster)

$260 bucks for the ton (50 bags)

Last year, at $2.50 /gal oil, i spent nearly 400 a month on oil.
this year, at $4.69 /gal oil, I'm going to spend ~100 a month tops on oil

up until this year, oil was FAR cheaper than gas... thus, most homes weren't built with gas furnaces.

We have a wood burner in our garage and it rocks, very effective way to heat.

a pellet stove is NOT a wood stove.

they are entirely different things.

pellets are 60% more effective in size per energy, are easier to maintain (little ash, auto-feeder via auger) and are 0-carbon. meaning, the natrual decay of the sawdust, etc they are made out of would have produced the same co2 decomposing as they would burning them.
you cannot say the same thing for wood.

My parents switched to a gas furnace not that long ago because of the price. Not to mention the oil furnace they had produced a ton of sut.

By being smart and investing in a pellet stove? Stone age is using a woodburning stove. But even then I know people with acres of land and can get their own wood.

wood is over 300 /cord split/delivered, requires manual effort to put 2 logs in every half hour, etc etc. it's FAR more expensive, and far too time consuming to deal with.

i can literally leave this be for 2-3 days with 0 human interaction.
dumping a bag in takes all of 10 seconds.

stone age? not really...

if solar panels didn't cost 50 grand, i'd have them on my roof.
if the river by my house had more head (yes, its a water term for slope), I'd have a personal hydro-electric generator. I researched it heavily. my river is simply too 'flat'. i'd need about 10 more feet of drop off within my property lines... and it's simply not there.

It heats very well is what I was trying to get at, and a wood burning stove and this pellet type you have still work on the same basic principle.
