Hi I'm new to the board, and I figured I would throw in my two cents worth on this one...

I totally agree with the original poster; Hippies are often misinformed, and often smelly! Hippies bitch just for the sake of bitching; they bitch about things like the environment just so they can feel like they are better than you because they are "saving the world" from all of us ignorant polluters...

Do you know what's really stupid? There is absolutely no reason that we can not drill for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve (ANWR)! NO ANIMALS WILL BE HARMED AT ALL!

First of all, the area that they want to drill in is very small and very desolate; temperatures are below zero and the region is bathed in darkness for a good part of the year; few if any animals live in this region year round! The occasional Caribou herd migrates through once in a while!

Second, the oil companies in Alaska have very strict regulations regarding the treatment of animals; employees could be fired for even throwing a rock at a fox!

And finally, the harvested oil would be shipped out of Alaska for transport back to the states using the Alaskan Pipeline! And in case you don't know, the Alaskan Pipeline is elevated off the ground in order to allow for wildlife to simply walk underneath it! Transporting the oil will not interfere with any migrating animals!

Take that hippies, and quit your bitching!

Hippies are against drilling the ANWR because they would rather see us all driving 10-hp electric cars, or better yet, not driving cars at all!

Yeah, it's kind of funny how they bitch and moan about all of this, yet they continue to drive cars, and use electricity, and cause trees to be chopped down for paper so they can make bullshit flyers about saving the environment to stick under the windshield wiper of your car!

Obviously, you have never seen anyone who was addicted to heroin, nicotine doesn't hold a candle to it. My ex just got out of jail for grand larceny because of heroin, not to many fedrel prisoners in for jacking someone for a smoke.

How is it "over-policing" to control where smokers partake in their nasty-ass habit when it directly affects the lives and well-being of people around them? Let's forget the fact that I smell like a dumpster when I get home from the bowling alley twice a week and that I can't breathe when I'm surrounded by smokers. That, I suppose, is my choice, and really doesn't hurt me too much. But the fact that I may get cancer or some other sort of hideous condition because of someone else's idiocy is unacceptable. I may even support laws that would allow other sorts of now-illegal drug use (concaine, heroin, etc), because the loons that use those drugs wouldn't be directly affecting me. It's Darwinism at its finest. However, I don't like to think that my lifespan is being cut short because someone wants to suck on the end of a cigarette butt.

most of my friends are hippies with beards and dreds, some don't shower, some do. all of them surf and are generally cooler people than most other groups that i've hung out with. i don't ever see any of them protesting. also we are just one big HAPPY family and noone ever stabs you in the back or talks shit about you behind your back. they just like to get fucked up, listen to phish and marley. and my taste ranges from phish to top of the line. (which is a really down south rap group here in p'cola that my friend makes tracks for. so in short from what i've experienced in my life hippies are better as a person than anyother "group" they will accept anyone if your cool to them and are very generous. just incase your wondering i don't have a pic right now but i have short hair and i'm more of a surf style then hippie. also no beard here.

ps. and my take about protesting hippies. i think there are hippies that do take it seriously and then there are hippies that just go to get fucked up with othree hippies. that's what i've seen in san fran at least. noone protest around here

I grew up on George Carlin, and I didn't really mean it like the planet is going away, but more in reference to the fact that we as humans have a tendency to destroy ourselves. Be it on a individual, generational, ethnical, global level whatever, our behavior is self destructive, and the hypocricy that surrounds our behavior is humorous. I guess my statement just exemplifies the human nature of thinking of ourselves as masters of the world, instead of temporary inhabitants.

2. If you want the government to take your views seriously maybe you shouldn't smoke weed or do acid, because SURPRISE, it is against the Law.

I think we democrats are outnumbered on these boards... just because I'm a democrat however, does not mean I'm a hippy tree hugger... There were plenty of Democrats (including myself) who were all too happy too see Al Qaeda bombed to the stone age. I also, however, think it could have been done more efficiently (there are talks to let the Taliban back in, because the regional government is a farce). Hippies do however, smell bad, due especially to poor hygenic habits.
