Default hmm insurance? idk about that

hi hondaswap
well my dad and i have talked about financial plans because im out of the house in less than a year, cars got brought up and he was telling me about how i can finally be able to afford a nice bmw m3 e46. well he was saying i should ditch my cheap car and start making payments on a mitsu lancer or something around that class. decent gas milage, a car that will keep its value over the next 5 years, and something thatll be inexpencive yet not look like ass. the plan was to pay off the car by the time i get my bachelors, have roughtly an 8 thousand dollar car that i own and go drop it on an m3. while i dig this idea and i have more important things in life than cars, i dont wanna be driving such a boring car (coming from my previous plans on swaping in a b18c and turboing my integra)

soooo what about an rsx type s? are the insurance companies gonna pull the "oh its 200hp and a 2 door, your 18 and going to crash it into a wall because its soooo fast" and charge me insane amounts on insurance.

ive always dug an rsx but what are some cars that you think will keep their value, not be over $10k, have looks, have good performance for a responsible enthusiast, while not get raped by insurance...even though they rape no matter what

Call the insurance company.

They can provide quotes.

The cadillac CTS-V and the G35 were cheaper than my A4, based on my insurance company the years of the cars.

get a volkswagen tdi. any model.

they're nice, they're fun, and get fantastic gas mileage.
and the gas mileage will ensure held value later on when gas stays above $3/gal.

who knows, you may enjoy it so much you decide against the m.

You're 18 and headed off to school. Get yourself a decent, very reliable fuel efficient car (civic, integra, etc) and pay cash for it. The last thing you want as a student is hefty car payments dragging you down every month. That being said, you say you own an $8000 car. You can get an RSX-S for that. Just find a nice clean one that hasn't been beat. Buying it several years old ensures that the value of the car won't drop drastically, its pretty well done dropping large amounts of value every year around the 5 year mark.

i didnt say my integra was worth 8 thousand. i said that i wanted to finish making payments on a car by the end of college and end up with a fully paid off car that is worth at least $8,000.

the reason is, my integra is old, im too young and too smart to spend 8,000 in my engine bay, and id rather invest in a car thats new, 08-09. and ill have warranty on it and everything being reliable until i graduate college with a paid off car that i can swap for an m3.

i was looking at maybe something like an 09 mazda 3?

however id keep my integra if i had the 3000 thatd make it all nice and pretty and perfectly reliable but idk

09 mazda 3 isnt a bad choice, but if you are going for that new of a car, get a 2010. they redesigned for 2010, and if your going for resale value in 5 years, you are going to want to get the most recent model.

and they're much nicer too.

I would look into a Jetta GLI or GTI...very sporty cars...great gas mileage..holds value....I owned a 2006 Jetta GLI and if it was AWD I would have kept it...but thats why they make Audi's

I'd go for cheap, relable car that you don't care about. This really depends on the college, but at most schools you car WILL get trashed. Within the first 2 weeks of college my 99 si had a dent in the door from some fuckard backing into me. They hit the door seam screwing the door and the unibody. Cost $700 to fix.

I then got a cheap hatch that was mint. Someone decided to rip a mirror off. One of my drunk friends did a cannon ball onto the hood of my car. Everything is parallel parking, and everyone, especially girls have the view that you keep backing up until you hit something.

Keep the teg stock and bank the money or sell the teg, buy a used TDI and rock that.

yup, i'd say EF hatch.

plenty of room to move to the dorm/home for the summer, good mileage, fits 4-5 people if neccessary. if kept stock, far less likely to get stolen than an eg. it's the perfect college car.

This.

I bought a WRX right before college and although the car was nice to have, at points I rather have had kept all the cash and just spent the money on the experiences to be had in college (spring break get aways, weekend get aways, road trips, parties, etc.) than having bought the car.

:word: Big mistake buying a new car in college. I had 6k, and I was like shit, I'll put it towards a new car, and the insurance is what raped me.

I was the kid with 1-2 jobs all the time working. I definitely did those things too, and well I'm paying for them now. No savings, credit card debt, and yeah, car payments still.

You're 18, anything "sporty" is gonna cost you an arm and a leg for insurance.

Save yourself the money and spend it on the good times to be had in college.
