Well I think I have had the worst luck ever the past few days with my car. My spring break started friday, drove home from college yesterday, 550 miles. There was no one on the road and in the UP I moved 80-85 the entire time (55 mph country roads) and about 80 on the freeways. 540 miles done, and I get on to the last stretch, and this dumb bitch merges into my lane cuts me off, and we make contact. Thankfully years of GT4 experience kept me from spinning. At first she just keeps on driving. I follow her and continue to flash her so I can get her info. Finally she pulls over and I get it. I only have PLPD so it really doesn't help me too much but what ever. Damage really only consists of some rubber and paint marks and a few scratches all to my driver's side front fender. Oh well, life goes on

...Fast forward 22 hours.

First nice day of the year here so i decided to go out on my road bike. I just bought new wheels last week for it so I was super stoked. Well I'm on my way out of the city to my normal biking road (you have to drive to get there) and I have to make a u turn. Well I do one, and then all of a sudden, halfway through the turn I hear a pop, front end moves down 6 inches, and I hear a grinding sound. I was barely moving so I basically just stopped. Ball Joint snapped :( I go to use my phone, battery is dead. I am just wearing my biking tights and a jersey. Basically caught with my pants off. Luckily some guy on a bike was riding by right when it happened and stopped. He offered his phone. Well, I really only know 3 numbers, my own, my house, and my dad's who's number is one digit difference then mine. Call him, he picks it up. I tell him the situation, how I am in the middle of traffic (on a busy road) and I don't have my wallet on me which has my ID and AAA card. Finally he gets there, and he walks to the car right when the cop shows up, and he tells the cop that he was driving so that way they don't ask for my license.

The same fender gets even more fucked up, tire got cut, and it snapped the axle in half.

Just one more reason why I hate my car. I a want car that just works. I am actually kinda thinking a honda insight.

And just a random quick pick of my new wheels. I took this with my iBook so the quality sucks. They are Shimano Dura-ace WH7700's. Light and look bad ass, plus I have read a ton of great reviews from them. Got them for 280 shipped from ebay, never used.

so... your axle broke? ive broken axles, ive never had the front end drop on me. what else broke :(

opps, no, the lower ball joint went, and because of that, it snapped the axle (just seperated the CV shaft)

It can only get better from here, so don't worry. Sweet wheels, by the way. I was just out for a while on the mountain bike with street tires... I need a road bike!

so what happened? you popped the lower ball joint and ripped the out part of the axle out of the boot? or you actually sheered the axle?

edit: damn i'm slow

Could have been like when I came back from MTU Thanksgiving break. About 1.5 hours north of Lansing (home) I crushed a deer going 80 down 127. Airbag went off, smelled like shit/chemicals, damn thing didn't even hit my face. By-by 97 Accord, hello 96 escort.

I snapped my rear axle on my bike dropping boulders recently.

i'd say you were lucky it didn't pop while you were cruising at 80mph

Yeah, 80mph ball joint failure is pretty violent. major suspension components usually get ripped clean off, or out of the unibody. So you didnt do too bad there. Fender was crap anyway, right?..
So, take that insurance money, buy a new tire, ball joint, and keep an eye out for a color matching used fender on ebay. Pocket a couple of hundred bucks.

Anyway, Wil does have you beat 100 fold. Go read his thread, your life will seem 100% better, Instantly.

Sorry wil.

insight = fun comfortable car with decent handling that gets retarded MPG
if there was brakes and suspension upgrades available for them i would have gotten another one after i crashed mine
i miss that car :(

ive done a big ass write up on it a few times
hold on let me find one

E, How big is their trunk? Do you think you could shoehorn a road bike in the back if you take off the front wheel (I actually posted this question on a big biking forum, still awaiting an answer from them)

not easily.

the trunk is tiny and odd shapped..... but it is pretty deep. i bet with both wheels off it would fit though. but the handelbars would need to go in first (as its not deep towards the rear of the car)
