Is anyone here familiar with auto insurance rates for military personnel?

My friend's family is Navy and he says that they get low rates because they are in the military.

Something along the lines of an EG?

Are you in the military or planning to be? Why not ask your friend's family to find out a hypothetical insurance rate for you and an EG? Or a military recruiter, at least they might know who to ask.

yeah there's something out there for military people. my brother pays an insanely low rate for his matrix and his truck.

Well anyone who is willing to be in the military (especially now) definitely deserves good benefits. As military pay is not too exciting, they should get discounts like these, plus so many in the service are young (under that magic age of 25). However, getting a good car insurance rate shouldn't be the main reason for joining the service...

please PLEASE point me in the direction of this 'discount' for being in the military. I need it. Badly

You're in the military also?

Well isn't there someone you can ask about your military benefits? Start with your commanding officer. Those car insurance perks should not be such a secret imo. The military should have something the equivalent to a regular business company's human resources department. What branch are you in?

Okay guys..... I just did a quickie Google serach for "military car insurance rates" and found this:

"USAA is one of the more aggressive insurers, cutting rates by an average 7% in 44 states this year. But the insurer has relatively limited reach, since it caters to the military and their families."

Well it seems that you guys should call up some insurance carriers (USAA in particular) and tell them that you are in the military and see what it is that they can do for you. Obviously they will need proof of active military status.

I also found the USAA site for you.... http://www.USAA.com and good luck! Remember you still will need to be mindful of your driving habits. I suspect someone with a bad driving record or a sporty, high theft car will have relatively higher premiums than a good driver with a slow sedan. B)

USAA, that's the one my brother uses.

lol @ this. what do you think I had before I wrecked the turtle? they do not offer better rates to us like they might lead you to believe. I was looking more along the lines for a company that offers a flat out discount rather then some "We insure all military members so that makes us cheaper" speel.

All I know is my brother pays less than 50 a month for insurance on his matrix and truck, of course he's 26 and married as well... so that helps too.

Well... from reading USAA's homepage you can tell that they need the driver's age and points record before giving a quote. The first passage that I quoted from an article discussing several different insurance companies. So I believe that US military personnel do get a real better price on their premiums from them.... BUT they would be plain stupid to let's say offer some flat cheap rate or anything like a 50% discount rate across the board to military personnel in the under 25 age bracket because they would obviously lose a ton of money on you kids. They aren't idiots. USAA is still a business, not some patriotic charity. Even if their discounted rates were only 15%, it's still a lot business-wise in dollars. Insurance is just a numbers racket like Las Vegas. And the fact is, people under 25 just get into a lot more accidents and situations that us older folk.

And seeing how YangpaNemsay is so facinated with building up an EG for racing and drift, insuring him for something like $50 a month wouldn't be such a wise bet anyway. Now spectacle, when you wrecked your turtle, how much damage dollar-wise was involved?

^ LOL.

Hmmmmm. I thought that any damages that occur on the racetrack is not covered by auto insurance.

I thought that if you bash up your car at the track that you would have to deal with it yourself.

I don't plan on doing any street racing or highway battles.

I don't condone street racing.

USAA does have great rates... if you're an officer. For the enlisted, they have good benefits but the rates are just like many others.

Same for GEICO. They have excellent rates for officers but only great benefits for enlisted.

No other carrier likes to insure military enlisted because they move around so much. Not to long ago, State Farm wouldn't even offer a rate to enlisted unless they were E5 or higher.

The best bet is to call Progressive, GEICO, and USAA and see who has the best benefits for the price.

Good luck!

Well thank you very much for having such a strong sense of integrity. From your post on American servicemen driftracing in Okinawa, other service men were lying to their insurance carriers about the cause of the damages to their cars. Shit like that will only drive the car insurance rates for the rest of you servicemen up.

That's what I plan to do in a few weeks when I get back home. I'm getting another EG that I will boost the living hell out of so I'm not too worried too much about rates. Hopefully hatches are cheaper then sedans...
