they have to be within a certain percentage of an estimate. they can't legally rape you like that.

but anyways, good job with the smilies, that was cute.

Contact BBB, Richard Blumenthal and get a lawyer.

Yes, there are limits to exceeding a quote before a whole new quote can be drawn up. When I had the head gasket done on the Supra, it took him 18 hours vs the quoted 4 hours - the shop took a bath and I offered to pay a little more - He said that there are a ton of CT laws that prevented him from charging, and me from paying.

Talk to a lawyer, now.

Well, I think I have a foot to stand on. There was no written numbers for the proposal or estimate, but...on their own papperwork, the first mention of any moneies exchanging states:

Terms of Payment: One half down, balance upon completion.....

And stapled to the paper is my receipt for the deposit...with the note added.... "deposit on yardwork" for the amount of $600....

If I wanted a $4700 job done to the the yard, then I should have had the amount of at least $2350...and that should have been paid in full before they even touch a blade or wheel on my land.

Not 7.841%...what company in their right mind would do any work that has less than 8% for a written deposit and thier paperwork says they need half down before any work is done???...

I just went to the shop, and talked to the secretary, the owner is on the road, but should call me when he gets back to the office.

CHAPTER 400* HOME IMPROVEMENT CONTRACTORS

No signiture from the contractor, just a plain printed invoice, I never got a real contract, it has no cancelation rights printed on it, and I guess it would be a quasi-contract, so I don't have to pay, and they can't reclaim anything...

hrmm...I must study this crap some more.....

"Home improvement" does not include the sale of goods by a seller who neither arranges to perform nor performs, directly or indirectly, any work or labor in connection with the installation or application of the goods or materials.....

so is this landscaping job home improvement or not?

but this seller DID arrange AND perform DIRECTLY the work and labor...?
this would be like a purchase from home depot...
or from a lumber yard salesman...
this contractor did the install and application...
