Default My new pit puppy...PICTURES!

We had to drive 2 hours out to Odin, Il, but it was worth every second of it. Shes so used to peeing in the grass because thats where she had stayed for her 6 weeks of life that she has done all her business in the grass and when she needs to do it she wines and cries for us to take her out. She is amazing.
You guys atre probably going to make fun of the name we chose but its MUGEN. Shes the sweetest and cutest thing ever! Hers some pictures!..

Action shot!

She LOVES our riding lawn mower.

This morning

Pits are extremely sweet dogs but your bitch is not a teddy bear. Treat her like a dog and she'll be far more happy. Meaning, let her whine, let her walk instead of carrying her, don't let her sleep on your bed, don't give her human food, et cetera. It might sound cruel but that's what any good trainer will tell you. Consistancy is the key with dogs. Speaking of which, get her obience trained as soon as you can. Pits are being outlawed all across this country because of both bad owners and bad breeders. Please do your part to change this.

Great looking bitch though.

She is 6 weeks old and already potty trained. I treat her like I have treated any pupyy. We just got her saturday and is just now walking around in our house. Its a very different enviroment for her compared to the outside she had always been in. Last dog I had was a dalmation I let her sleep with me all the time. Sweetest dog in the world so I will probably continue to let her sleep with us.

Shes starting to learn what shes not supposed to do. Very playfull and loveable so im going to treat her like I have treated any other dog with lots of L O V E!

Oh totally. I'm a sucker for puppies and I have to watch myself. For that fact, my 10.5 year old pit/rott still acts like a puppy. I play tug with him, wrestle with him, throw his ball, scratch his head, tell him he's a good boy for no reason, etc.. I just make sure I treat him like a dog. Here's the reasoning that I was given for it. When you treat an animal like a human (anthropomorphizing) you place unfair expectations on them which creates stress between pet and owner. You tell your dog, for a common example, to be quite and do as he's told like he's a child and then you get mad at him for not understanding you.

The other end is having a dog that walks all over and doesn't respect a thing you say because you've made it the alpha of the house hold by treating it as such. This is not an option with a Pit or any other breed labled as "dangerous". Ok, so how does any of this make your dog think (s)he is the alpha? Simple dog language. The alpha sleeps on the most comfortable spot, eats first, walks through doors/hallways first, gets the majority of the attention, and so on. One example of how to break this is this, when your dog brings you a toy (s)he is demanding your attention. What do you do? You go through some simple obience commands first and then you play with the dog. You let the dog know that you'll only play on your terms. This establishes you as the alpha of the pack and dogs view every human and animal in the house as a pack member. Another common example is this, your dog walks up to you and demands your attention by putting his/her head in your lap, pawing at you, nipping, what have you. Again, you make the dog go through simple obience commands and put yourself in the alpha position. Now instead of coming to you to demand attention, the dog will come to you and lavish attention because you're now its alpha.

I should say this, going through the obience commands doesn't need to be a harsh thing and shouldn't be unless the dog is in trouble. Two to five straight minutes of sit and down, with a choke chain on for re-enforcment if neccessary, is the best punishment for any dog. Choke chains aren't mean unless you make them and you're not using one correctly if you have to do it more than once or twice. You want a firm pull on the leash that will make the dog yelp. Again, this isn't mean unless you make it because the alpha male and female of the pack would nip the dog for misbehaiving. Yelling, smacking, hitting with a rolled up newspaper, rubbing their nose in it, etc. will only make a bad situation worse and make your dog not want to follow your commands. Be firm, yet positive and caring. Tell your dog "good boy/girl" for anything they do right, even if it's just laying at your feet. Your dog will love you for it because now (s)he knows what's expected and how to behaive, you've given him/her the guidance and roll model it needs to be a happy pack member.

For the doubting Janes on this board. All of this information comes from professional dog breeders and books those breeders highly recommend, along with the practical application of these methods over many years.
