Default Nissan develops "eco" pedal to push back when you stomp

Nissan develops eco pedal to assist smart driving | Industries | Consumer Goods & Retail | Reuters

In soviet russia, the gas pedal pushes you!

This is awesome. I can't tell you how much gas this'll save the average American. People need to get the idea that you don't have to go WOT to get going from a red light.

Honestly, it'll probably make people more courtous on the roads too. When the car tells you "Woah buddy, not so hard!" it'll change peoples' minds. Unfortunately, this will probably only ever be a feature that's turned off by default.

I'm glad to see that Nissan is taking another route to increase fuel economy. It's become aparent that most people don't care about the MPG meter in their cluster. Honda's sollution is to electronicly control the gas pedal, giving the ECU the ability to open up the throttle plate on its own, but it doesn't judge how much acceleration is too much....

So what happens when you're making a left turn with a small window of opportunity? It won't let you go WOT and you get tagged by opposing traffic? Good idea, and I agree with you that people tag the pedal through the floor off red lights, but a lot of times WOT is a necessity.

It's got issues, yeah. I'd have problems with it on the autobahn. Sometimes there's only a 5 meter opening to pass in. Not to mention having to go from 50km/h to 140km/h to get going with traffic when you get on.

that is fucking retarded and so is Nissan. They are also making the development harder on themselves. Why not work smarter, not harder, and just limit the pedal travel instead of making something that pushes back? Fucking rookies...

Cars aren't supposed to "think" in the first place. They're just supposed to drive. Who wants a a car that drives but is also the backseat driver?

You're the second person I've ever heard that has come out and said that about ABS. My dad also hates it, so turns it off when he can.

I jacked my dad's Jeep when I was 15, but that was first car I ever really got to drive, so I don't know lol. His Jeep had ABS.

Apparently it's something you can turn on and off, not something you have to abide by...

Yeah, I firmly believe that everyone who owns/drives a car over 100 HP should be required to go to a performance driving school.

when i brought up the price thing earlier, i was talking about when i was at a GM dealership & i was looking at some Firebirds & Corvettes (older models) there was a couple thousand dollar diffrence in the ones with and without ABS.

i think the ATT will be the same way, just something useless that people will end up paying a lot for

Awful. I hate ESC and ESP stuff. If you can turn it off and on, less of an issue. Hope Nader doesn't try to make it mandatory.

I've got no problem with it, as long as it can be turned off. There are people on the roads right now who can't properly operate a can opener, let alone the 3000lb rolling hunk of death that they're flinging down the freeway. Anything to help them is A Good Thing.

I think the pedal just gives resistance; you can still overpower it and scoot out of a dangerous situation if you need to.

I dissabled the ABS in my EX Accord. I love all the people that call/e-mail me worring about ABS/VSC/traction.. etc... like they are the only options that they care about. I can understand snow or even rain and and wanting some kind of stability system.... maybe. Oh, and also if I'm driving some aAWD beast like the EVO/GT-R. 90% of the time all these things do is hinder your driving ability. Look at the 350Z and the g35.. utter junk unless you get rid of the traction control.. limiting throttle etc.. its just bs.

I want an optional lane on all highways and interstates. A lane with an electronic track right down the middle of it. Hop on the interstate, merge into the lane, and hit "autopilot". Traffic computers take over, noone ever has to stop, bumper to bumper at speed, no problem. The lane can control the accel/decel however much it likes, because my ass is going to be kicked back snoozing.
