Default Noob here

Hi, I have been browsing the forums here and decided to register.

I own a 88 Civic Hatchback, green with black side skirts and back bumper. Suspension and engine is from a 91 CRX which I purchased at the same time for parts since it had been severely wrecked.

Both cars didn't run when I got them, the owner before took everything apart in the Civic and left the tranny along with other parts in the back of it. Good thing everything was there, all I had to buy was a clutch and radiator.

The engine still ran in the both cars but one day going down the highway the engine blew up in the Civic with out any warning. The car still ran with a hole in the side of the engine running on 3 cylinders with the forth one laying in the oil pan, which I still have under a tarp outside of my house.

Me and my uncle had to go out of town the next day though. So we took the engine out of the civic. No cherry picker or A frame used, we picked up that thing by hand and removed the one out of the CRX the same way and installed it in the Civic in the same manner.

I have no idea the mileage of the engine, all the instruments in the CRX where taken out, but it is working and for $200 USD for both cars with working engines and trannys isn't too bad of a deal.

I don't have the CRX anymore though. We stripped it completely out and had it sent off to a scrap metal yard. I do have parts I will probably never use though. A automatic tranny from the CRX. I prefer standard so I will probably never use it. All the suspension, just dropped it all at once. Gas tank, harnesses, etc. It was just a plain body once I got rid of it.

Will now I'm hoping the weather clears up. I need a garage , I have to craw under there ON A SUNNY DAY preferably, and check the tie rods and steering gear box. I'm getting a little vibration in the steering wheel and I think it is coming from there.

Welcome to HondaSwap!

I want to see pictures of the dead block if you can post them up.

Sounds like a hell of a deal on two cars too!

Ok, will do that when I get the chance. The piston rod broke a hole into the water jacket straight from the water pump. I don't know what other damage may be inside of it. Haven't taken it apart yet.

No, I wished though, I wouldn't mind a TV crew following me around while I do my job and getting paid on the side for it.

Actually me and my uncle lifted the engine out. It was allot heavier than we thought it was going to be, but we got it done.

I noticed though there where allot of nice changes between the 91 and 88 models even though they had exactly the same engine. The suspension was allot thougher and compact than the earlier model. The exhaust manifold on the 91 was allot nicer and smoother so I changed that out also. Now it may not be legal in all 50 states though because the cadilac converter was in the manifold on the 88 model and on the 91 it was in the exhaust pipe. It also has no muffler, just a plain tail pipe all the way to the back. It still needs allot of work, mostly cosmetic. One thing I have been wanting to get is the center vent since it was missing when I purchased it. I visited the wreaking yards here but none of them have broken down Civics in them.

Sorry for the sarcasm, but it's CATALYTIC converter. As in it is a catalyst to combust the unburnt exhaust gases.

My error, as for Cadillac my grandma drives one. I'll leave those automobiles to the older generation. Although I do like their line of pickups and SUVs. The car models though is too old style for my liking.

Here is a picture of my car which I purchased for $100 USD. I took this picture when I first got it. The body kit and paint was on the car when I purchased it in other words. I haven't done much to the appearance of the car yet besides get a set of matching rims. Most of the work lately has been done under the hood.

Thanks guys for the feedback on the appearance. I have been thinking about painting it some shade of blue. Haven't decided on the color yet. The side skirts have been removed, . Now I have holes in the fenders and the body of the car where the holes where drilled. A little areas of missing paint under there, but there is another layer of red paint protecting the metal. No rust so that is a A+.

The paint and body kits where applied by the first owner. I have no idea why the interior of the car is painted the same color. Somebody got carried away with the paint. He sold it after the clutch went out to another guy and it stood sitting in his back yard until I bought it. He wanted my uncle to put the clutch in for him but could never come up with the money to pay him for it. I guess in the end he decided to get rid of it along with the wrecked CRX.

I didn't care too much about the appearance of the car when I purchased it though. I just needed something that ran. I wrecked my truck a couple months before and the car I was buying from a used car dealership was acting up and they didn't want to fix it.

One question where is the best place to get a front bumper, driver and passenger side fenders, and a hood?
