There is always a chance of people overstepping their bounds, doesn't matter if it's the Patriot Act, or the Bay of Pigs. The fact is these people allegedly broke the law and are now under fire just as they should be. This just shows that the system of checks and balances in the Patriot Act still work.

EDIT: Saying we should can the Patriot Act because people abused it is like saying we should ban firearms because criminals shoot people.

It should also be noted that as terrorists aren't legal enemy combatants they aren't protected under the Geneva Conventions. In fact the people who lay claim that America is abusing these illegal combatants have generally have never visited these camps they are so against, and couldn't even come close to resiting the laws under the Geneva Conventions. They usually just make up what they think the rules are and then shout "Civil Rights Abuse", much like illegal immigrants shout "racism" because they no there's no intellectual counterpart to their argument...

but this isn't about abusing captives

It's a saying, get a fuckin grip. The loony left is full of cute catch phrases and colloqiualisms that seem to make one guilty for thinking differently. That "Those who will trade freedom for security deserve neither" dripping loosely formed buffalo shit that I hear all day long from the left.

It's neither. We are very free. IF you have a history of public demonstration against the goverment, make mention that you want to take down a plane, or have been noticed by the FBI as being a general hazard to the population, they track you. They tracked you since the 60s. The Patriot Act changes nothing.

Give me a difference today, that wasn't there pre-911. Except now we can share info between departments to bring these guys into custody. That's the only functional difference. The rest is "Be Popular by bashing bush" and this anti-american insanity that is gripping everyone.

Unbridled phone tapping without permission
masked and government controlled media
Cameras at every street corner, facial recognition
no-knock search warrants
unexplained random searches
Parcel and Package searches
Public searches
record locking
and internet censorship and tracking....



.... Look no further than the UK, France, Spain, Japan, China, Mexico, all Norwegian countries, Italy, Germany, All eastern bloc countries, Russia, Australia, New Zealand.... The list goes on.


This new form of enforcement is lightly becoming like the rest of these foul countries, and that is something I am not happy about. But everyone in the US has been SCREAMING to be more like Europe and Asia, with their free healthcare, "equal opportunities(HA)" and superior methods.

Fuck that. America is still the freest place on earth.

And if I recall correctly, it's the democrats and loonies that want to go door to door taking firearms away from citizens....

And since you guys seem to operate on catch phrases and oblique statements - Choke on this one: "The only people that fear an armed populace are Tyrants and Criminals"

I dont need the government to babysit me. If I have to live in a less secure environment to prevent my privacy from being raped by Uncle Sam, I'll do it. There's nothing patriotic about eroding the foundational ideals of America.
