im a firm believer that what is done can be undone, with relation to encryption. It just takes some time to find a way to do it. As far as keys go, they can always be compromised. If, in this case, only a partial is retrieved, it makes cracking the real key many times easier.

Take a look at the Obama bankrupting thread in reference to the skewed PRNG. You only need thirty-two bytes of a file to break the code and forge yourself a key.

That is insane.

ye, i read about the government's attempt to introduce an encryption system that was somewhat effective, yet weak enough for them to crack in reasonable time. the problem, with this, is that the exponential growth of fast computing makes all but the best encryption systems obsolete, fairly quickly.
