Gallery- what do you like, what do you hate?
In the works for V4, i'm totally re-doing the gallery structure, file system, and all that. At some point, i will be blowing out the entire directory of pics and albums. I know this is a pain, but at the same time, it clears out about 800MB of shit. I will post a notice at least a couple days ahead of time to save any pics to your machine or forever hold your peace. What do you like about it? What do you hate about it? What would you like to see added? taken away? In the works already is:
Tech/Swap Articles and the Reference Section These have all been moved to a top secret place already Basically, I created a new forum category. This means, they are searchable now via the search form for the forums. Plus, its much cleaner, easier to edit, and any mod can fix something just like they could a post with the edit button. Those will go live once v4 launches. until then, they are hiding, and the old stuff will be active. Content- there hasn't been much new shit lately... and its not just my fault, well, yeah okk it is.. I've got tons of write ups I'm going to get to eventually... and If anyone else would like to contribute to it, it wil be more than welcome.I'm toying with the idea of adding a new user group- Contributors or something to that extend, which will give certain select people posting permissions in the article forums. Otherwise, they will be read-only. With this, the FAQ will be closing for technical reference. All the tech shit in there is going to be moved to the articles section. The FAQ will be for, well, FAQ. how to use the gallery, why can't i be a mod, and all that non-car related babble. Forums I half-way created a new template. the lite blue is getting tossed for a dark blue/grey/white theme. I need to come up with an image pak for this as well. In addition, the rest of the site will carry the same design. I hate that green shit that the rest of the site is now. Home Page Portal The home page is getting totaly re-worked as well. I'm trying to set up RSS feeds from the articles section for RSS and XML readers. I am also trying to setup a Syndication algorithym, which will allow any of you folks to place a section on your own website from our content. it will be a simple code, liek a counter code, that you could simply copy/paste onto your homepage or wheverever you think it would be cool to get, for instance, the last 10 posts, the last couple articles, or what have you. The homepage is also going to be more images and more layout. All the while, it will be clean, table-less modularized xhtml 1.1/css derrived, and will be readable on cell phones, pda's, handhelds, netscape 2, or your latest up to date browser. I want it to be totally accessible. I'd like to convert the forums to that as well... but they are half way through V2.0 which is going to be a total waste of my time if i start that now, and upgrade to more legacy code two months later. Home page will be featuring the featured ride of the month- recent article quickies, and recent posts kinda like it does now, only 342 times better. http://overboost.com/ is a good example of the "style" the site will have has far as the article content goes. Qwuick icon, a link, date, and blah.. Only, it won't be gay, slow, nor charge you to read shit. More Stuff What else... well, what else do you want? what do you think would be an asset to this community? Got an idea? if its good, feasable, and im capable of programming it, it will be considered. So lets hear it. HONDASWAP- the only place where the member opinion counts. you won't find this anywhere else. ![]() |

id jump the post count for the gallery to 50. why? fucktards that want free hosting. if they are going to use hondaswap to host pictures, they might as well contribute to the community right?
also, if you do the user fee for the extra gallery space - what if you decide the change the staff again and one of the ex-mod/admins have more than the allotted 2mb? my 2 cents... __________________

I'm w/ turbomirage on the 50 post. Lets be honest, most the people on hear come from god knows where and get on for a couple of posts, leave their stench and are never heard of again. Things like free picture hosting is a privelage, not a right! The people on hear that I consider "regulars" are here for the reason that this probably all started. Just peeps that are into the same shit and want to shoot the shit, help each other, gain knowledge, and foremost, learn how to make a better performing vehicle no matter what the end use.
I also agree with the contribution of $$$ for extra space/maintenance. I would and will send a liitle cash to B for all his work. I commend him on what he has done. I know trhat I am not any sort of veteran round hear, but I've been coming to this site for the last year and have gained considerable knowledge and aquired realtionships w/ others. $5-10 bucks for that is a small amount for things like that. Lastly, I think there should be some sort of "shadetree" mecahnic forum or such, where say people could submit write ups on certain installs, w/ pics and I'm not talking putting gaytezza's in your civic! I"m saying like an article a week/month written buy a member/members on How-To shit for your ride(claying a motor for clearences, or big brake upgrade or such). Hell, I'd be down for writing a few. other than that sounds pretty good. just my opinion matt __________________

with no limits, it makes us all slack on keeping the shit clean. that one funny pic that you posted, is a dead thread 3 days later.... toss it. but with no limits, it just hangs out. so, 50 sounds better? I know not everyone here posts as much as i do... and it may take a "reader" a good 4 months to hit 50 posts... and well, may just induce whoring. there needs to be a fine line, ya know? |

My ideas might be far-fetched\imossible but here I go:
Template for the For Sale forums, making it necessary for Location, price etc. 25 post minimum to post in the members corner. And I also agree that there should be a place to submit how to's with pictures and write ups. __________________

I dunno about the 25 post minimum to post in the members corner. What if people only come for the tech, and have looked into the drama and bad mouthing that has gone on and want no part of it....As we all know it is all harmless babbling...
I'm with everyone who thinks the 50 post thing will lead to whoring. There is a reason why people arn't posting, maybe they just want to read what other people have posted rather than ask the same quesion over and over again....(Hey, it could happen..) So it basicaly comes down to, trust b....he knows the way...I mean, look how far he got the site....it looks/runs GREAT, but it is you guys that make it fun....Now lets get back to some more babbling... __________________

i like the sound of 25+ posts for members lounge.
and 50+ posts for gallery access. my suggestions. 1. In the main gallery page, perhaps an updated search feature, so you could search for Galleries my member names. 2. A tab to the gallery on the MainPage not just the board. 3. Perhaps a cap on the amount of gallery space ever member has, if there isnt already one, and a cap on individual pic sieze, to elimimnate life sized pics. just my .02 other than that all the proposed changes sound really nice. __________________

50 is alot for some people.I think it will promote whoring. but 50 would be a good way to determine if you even want the guy here. if he starts whoring and then oncec he gets to 25 or 50 he uploads a buttload of pics he prolly isnt going to add alot to the site. information wise.

i like the ideas thus far. im divided on the post count thing though. i think 50 will be good. the people that post whore will post whore anyway, people that will participate in HS will have more then 50 posts.
and what about that intro you had up a while ago. IMO it was badass, but other people could think it was annoying, so its up to you, personally i liked it, gave the site a real performance feel from the minute you open the site. |

i also believe u should do something with the quality of posts.....
i could go and get 30 posts right now by randomly putting a emoticon in any random thread just to get extra post count __________________

new forum for the articles if we have get a lot more. Basicly the guidelines would be "This forum is for questions/comments regarding articles and write ups"
B, for I will be summiting a few articles from semi difficult to extremly easy, yet we still have posts about them which will include -replacing axles -replaceing brakes -Bleeding brakes -Bleeding clutch -Flushing coolant/replacing thermostat For the articles, we should have an article submission thing. The 2 gripes that I had with the gallery sound like they will be solved (multiple delete thing, and the muptiple uploads) __________________

2. i'm sure that's coming. 3. read the thread before you post your suggestions. as for me, it all sounds good. one think that i always wanted was a next button when browsing through pics in the gallerys, glad to hear that's gonna be covered. but i don't like the sound of hackin' down the size/quailty of pics 25%. it's fine for fucktards that don't know how to save shit, but for somebody that has a basic idea of how to export jpg's, it could be just kinda frustrating. it's really not needed with the new 2mb limit. if they wanna be able to save more pics in their gallery, then they should learn how to export them correctly. __________________
