i call bullshit on the high-tech radar that reads plates. it might get a speed check. anything else would be called a camera with a zoom lens.

espeically if there is traffic...there is always the possibility of obstruction...hmmm...guess it would depend on where the cop was sitting too...

I was doing 126MPH in the SI when I blew past a trooper at 3AM in Texas back in 2003. He didn't even pull out of his spot.

They're in widespread use in the UK already- the standalone radar signs show your plate number as you go by.

Dunno- I haven't heard anything about the Japanese version. I've just seen the license plate readers highlighted on the Discovery channel when they were talking about new exciting technology.
