since ur tryin for a poor mans type r i think i would go with a p28 ecu. and a vtec wiring harness. ur car takes an obd2 harness if u run into problems just get an obd2 to obd1 conversion.
theres many of things it could be rotor, coil , fouled plugs u need to check all these... and if ur getting an engine code look it up cuz that might be the problem.

DIY if u know how to put the motor back together correctly and as for just pulling the motor apart to put a block gaurd on a b18 with bolt-ons is not a smart idea to me..

you will fell gains but not much.. you should add a throttle body too that would be wise a little more power/ torque gain i belive the skunk2 mani add8-12 hp / 6-9 torque.. you could look it up on the skunk2.com n look at manifold dyno's
