    If you are still having trouble going over 3500 rpm it could your distributor is going bad. If you can replace the distributor and see you can eliminate that from your list of possibilities.

    There is no easy fix that will make it slide off. You'll have to pry it off without damaging the internals. Good luck.

    Have you checked the ignitor in the distributor.

    If you got white smoke from the dipstick you probaly got water in your oil. Possible problems could be your head gasket is going out or maybe your oil cooler.
