What Model is my 90 Civic Hatch?

The STD is ALWAYS the lightest Civic of a GIVEN year. Although, because later models had door mounted seatbelts, a 1991 STD is going to be heavier than a 1988 DX.

What Model is my 90 Civic Hatch?

SIs are overrated, in my opinion. Honda added TONS of extra stuff you don't need, which added LOTS of weight. But they gave it a drivetrain with just enough power and shorter gearing to make it slightly faster than a DX. DX with swap > SI (with or without swap) ANY DAY!

    D-series or B-series

Since when does taking pride in one's self and your work mean that you have to be so uncivil about this sort of thing? Do you REALLY think that by being obnoxious and demeaning, you are going to get this kid to do the right thing? I fully agree that this kid should pay for his own swap, as I...

    D-series or B-series

Serously, don't listen to any of these lowlifes here. They're just trying to make you feel bad because they probably got stuck with their parent's old K-car as a hand-me-down for their first car. Either that, or because they have had everything given to them by their parents, feel guilty about...

accord engine into a 91 Hatch

I'd still sell the SI for the cash. You can pick up a STD for almost nothing compared towhat you can get for an SI.

Well, there is certainly nothing wrong with a B16A swap. PLENTY of people have done it. So it is a road well traveled. There really are no unpleasant surprises with this swap, and if the motor, transmission, and workmanship are good, it will be every bit as reliable as a stock motor. Maybe even...

accord engine into a 91 Hatch

On a car that weighs ~2000 pounds, a few hundred pounds is well over a 10% difference. This is VERY significant. Think of that percent weight decrease as having the same effect as the same percent power/torque increase. If, for instance, the weight decrease is 12%, and the power is 200HP, the...

    1992 Gsr

Here's how I see it. Honda came out with that generation of Integra for the 1990 model year. At that time, Civics were still using cable transmissions. And since the Integra is, in many ways, based on the Civic (the JDM SIR used basically the same drivetain), this is what was used on the...

    h23 connecting rods

I don't think H22A rods will work. The stroke on an H23A is about 5mm longer than the H22A. And I don't think the deck is higher on the H23A. So if you use H22A rods, the pistons will just bang into the head before TDC.

Rust is MUCH more of a problem if youlive where roads are salted. And here in Northern California, you're not going to encounter much road salt unless you happen to live somewhere like Tahoe, Truckee, or Susanville.

    b20a engine

If you want a cheap DOHC motor, go for an H23A. It WILL drop into your Accord, bolt right up to your transmission, and produce more power and torque than either the B20A or the stock F22 (160HP, 156ft-lb torque). The H23 is also relatively reasonably priced.

    SOHC -or- DOHC

It is true that you can do better with a DOHC motor like an H-series. But that costs money. So unless you want to pony up for one of these motors, keeping the stock F22 is a better choice than trying to rig a worthless motor like a B20A5 into an Accord.

What Model is my 90 Civic Hatch?

Because of the lack of the accessories you mention, the black piece between the taillights, drum brakes, DPFI, and four speed transmission, it sounds like you have a STD model. Someone apparently swapped in an SI longblock, slapped on an SI badge, and kept the four speed transmission and DPFI.

Actually, the best Civic HB to use would be a 1988-1989 STD (or CX, if you lie in Canada). This is by far the cheapest and lightest. If your 1991 SI is in good shape, you could possibly ake a decent profit by selling it and buying a 1988-1989 STD HB.

Also, even if you can find some used, they will not work with an automatic transmission. Automatics use different brackets than manuals. And pretty much ANY mount kit you come across will work with a manual transmission ONLY.
