Default 05 Yamaha R1?

theres a guy in my town who happens to have a R1. i actually believe its the R6. but so the word is. its an R1. They say he bought himself a nice Suzuki. so he's selling the Yamaha. I know him moderately. (while back he bought my 91' 240sx off me.)
well he only wants 4k for it. and willing to do payments. i know for a fact thats a hell of a deal. but the more of larger base opinion is. will that small of a bike be alright for a guy like me? im not super skinny but i dont look like fat Albert either. just mid range basically. so. larger group opinion. what do you think?

(i ask this because i was told that a guy my size would rather have a larger feeling bike and not just a smaller sized chasis wise one.)

oh and yes. this will be my first bike owned. not driven but actually owned.

don't buy it. If you think an R1 is a small bike you have no business being on a bike that does not have pedals.

oh and yes. this will be my first bike owned. not driven but actually owned.

After having some shitty 88 kawasaki's and yamaha's to play with My 1st real bike and last was a 2000 r1, that 1,000cc screams man.. compared to the ones I had prior, the guy i got it from used to ride with me and made me feel stupid passing me like i wasnt moving.. And i know those kawasaki's woulda stompoed a mustang.. But when i got my hands on that R1, maannnn. me and my baby's mom split up and my world came crashing down on me.. family gone pictures everywhere.. I really didnt give a shit at that point in life and probally the smartest thing i ever did was get rid of it.. Damn I wish I had it now though..

Cruising speed was a comftorable 160 on the way to work over the escatawpa bridge (I-10 Mississippi Gulf Coast).. It was pearl white, Ruff Riders in blue on the bottom, it had some shit done to it, Yoshimira carbon fiber pipe, Fuel system upgrade and chipped.. Led tail lights, chamilion looking windshield matching the helmet.. Gahhh I miss that damn bike.. My kawasaki's, one of them i couldnt get running, the other a 550, no front brakes (80% of braking) so stopping wasnt fun, not to mention is leaked oil bad.. no lights.. bald tired.. I dont know what i was thinking, layed it down at a stoplight tryin to beat the yellow light.. rode it standing on top of the tank while it was on its side round and round.. till it stopped haha everyone stopped and checked on me.. It was like riding a wakeboard haha..

The R1 had no dampener though so anything over 165, pullin the handle bars like cocking a cross bow to stop it from wobbling.. Anyways The day i decided to get rid of it was the day after I did this.. coming down an unfamiliar road, 35mph curve, not Good at laying into the curves all the way.. I start to cross over, slowed way down to a stop just the other end of the curve, in the opposite side grass, 5ft ditch 2 feet on left, on coming traffin 2 feet on right.. ouch.. To make it worse, I got back to hwy90 and figured shit, I'm doin 140mph, dark out 45degree's and i'm in flip flops tank top and shorts cause it was nice when the sun was out.. I can freeze for 10 minutes ... or 3...
I's sittin at 140, see tail lights bout half mile ahead in the slow lane(where i was) down shifted n' nailed it, shifting lanes at same time.. I almost took the mirror off the car i caught up to it so fast, and there where 3 other cars infront of it .. zipzipzipzip, (Digital speedometer) Caught a glimpse of the speen.. 190mph and plenty to go I let off the gas as soon as i looked at the speed.. holy shit i was thinking... It got from 140 to 190 in what like 4/5 seconds.. got on the brakes n slowed enough to turn my head to look back.. only a twinkle from the headlights I just passed not 10-15 seconds ago.. NO LIE! That bike was fukinawesome..

But for a 1st time bike owner, I would definatly say a 600-750 gsxr, but if your heavy likie how heavy? look in the mirror, gut hang way out? Get a harley sportster as a 1st bike.. If your just avg like 200lbs 5ft11.. you'll be find on a sport bike.. I love them both, My dad has 3 1960 bmw bikes.. They're fun whenever he lets me take one out.. Just dont be stupid like I totally was 5 years ago.. I gave $3500 for that bike, and it was bout 2 maybe 3 years old at the time.. 12,000 miles.. Oh yeah and the back tire was bald on that one to.. and i hit 190.. totally stupid.. like I said didnt have a care in the world.. Terrible time in life for me.. its all good now.. and women dont enderstand why I", not sensitive or dont give a fuck if they're here one day and gone the next.. I aint goin through that shit again.. lol

SOOORRRRYYY For the long message!! But that brought back some memories.. DUDE If your a bigger guy, I'd say get you something real cheap just to get the feel for it for a few months, then go get you a bigboy Hayabusa (Gsx-1300-r) Or the kawasaki 1400.. I like suzuki's more than any of them though.. kawasaki would be my last pick.. but its a bad mofo think its a zx-14 or someshit.. the Hayabusa is a work of art.. Throw a streched swing arm on there, chrome package.. wide back tire.. lowered.. ahhh.. Beautiful! Check them out I'm sure they're on ebay.. I saw a real sick hayabusa on ebay one time.. man... devilish looking.. red/black custom paint looked like devils tails in a suddel 3d.. Lil chrome spikes for bolt covers .. double spinners on the front, spinner on back.. chrome package, stretched huge back tire, mirrors matched the rims.. sweeeeet.. I printed it out.. got it round here somewhere..

Again sorry for the long message..

I didnt say the cc's of the engine are small. if you read again. i wrote "small chasis's wise" as in the bike doesnt seem as big as others in size i ve looked at. I know that 1kcc's are a bad bitch. but either way. any bike can kill you. either your on a 1000 or a 50. its all how the luck of the day is. and how stupid the driver is. im an average 235lbs 5'10" forgot to mention earlier. the bike that im hearing about is even lowered. Im not looking to go outragous speeds and be a retard and a half. i'd just like something with some power to pick up and go if i have to and if i feel like going somewhere just to get out and look around. save gas and have a fun ride. I've drove bikes before. but non the less they were either a 600. or something alittle smaller that someone i knew owned. I've just never been on a 1000 yet. all i m hunting for is a general opinion from experianced riders. I value my life. and i love my honda enough to live for it. lol but like i said. i dont plan to get a bike get out go stunt it or drag race it. or whatever. just something i can drive and enjoy (when it doesnt rain in florida )

R1s are small bikes. Sorry.

Fun to ride, at your weight though, I dunno man. You'd like you were in a crazy circus.

I have a friend that is 5'9" 250 and he whips around a r1. He doesn't look to big for the bike. That is a average price for a bike of that year. Take it for a ride see how you like it and if you do get it. I would also take a good look at the vin # and find out if it is a liter bike or not??? If it is only a r6 i would offer 3200

Buy it. I paid 3200 for my r6 and I already want something more powerful. I rode my friends R1 tonight. I may just keep the r6 and stunt it out and either buy the gsxr1000 or a newer R1.

yea I'd take a gsxr over another R1 anyway. They're my alltime fav's. Only thing I don't like about the new gsxr1000's is the wideass plastic back end. If I were to get another bike it'd 100% the GSX1300R black n chromed out.. Bout a 8in stretch. I don't care what people'd say. Might be talkin shit bout da hayabusa. But its just jealousy.. Love the body lines n front end. To tyte to me!

I'm not sure if you've read my rants on Hayabusas, and their owner.

Too ghetto of a bike, they are chintzy and sound like a coffee can with nails in it. It's too low, of course I lowered my ZX12 too it's now "zombie low".

And after my rants on Hayabusas, read my rants on Zombies.

The ZX10R is now lighter. Kawasaki is like that. They sit back and wait how other bikes fair on the market, then they sneak up and ANNIHILATE. Takes about a good 6 years though.

Honda is first to market with an extreme case (the CBRs were the lightweight ones) then Suzuki underprices them and makes it a touch lighter, then Kawasaki comes along and combines both high price with superlative behaviors. Look at the Blackbird XX invention, the response from Suzuki with the Hayabusa (Or Oscar... Google "hayabusa oscar") and then Kawasaki came in with the 1200 and blew them both away. (The ZX11R was also out there, but it's a totally different bike and frame (It's what Uma Thurman rode in Kill Bill))

Like I said LOL I don't care that ppl hate on the busa. Just something about it. Then when bikerboyz came out and I say that busa on there. I think there was one on torque some girl was riding. Might have been bikerboyz to. Anyways I love the look you can get outa that bike. The saki's I had were old and still had a strong running motor but I hear people all the time saying they're not built right/break down alot. My thing is I want the bike stock to have one headlight / bright on top. Not be riding with 2 headlights with one on.. Looks like a bike right off the showroom floor with a blown headlight already. I know I'm weird. I know that's an easy fix. But if the factory think that looks good they couldn't be doing shit right on da rest of the bike. Just my opinion. Bikes are one of those things ppl are deadset on they're make. The zx14's badass though. Definatly. I'm all about having more power that I'll never use. Just to know it'll do it

first off. Learn to write? Maybe u should follow your own adivce. Not to mention read what your writing about. I ain't got shit to leave if I did die.

And celebrity. Yea cuz. I was dreaming my ass off bout busa'a in there. That's all there is to do.. 16 months I thought I'd be getting out every day cause I sat wondering when am I going to court the whole time in county. Finally went then hit prison up. I had big plans cause I though everything would be back to normal. Then I realized I'd never see my car and the 30 grand in work done to it. Ontop of another 40 grand in lawyers and courtcosts. So I got shot down of all my plans. But I'll get back up soon enough. Theres finally a light at the end of the tunnel. I gotta scan this pic my dad sent my when I was in county of this busa. Good dreams on that. You seen them flip tags? Tyte.
