I was originally thinking something newer and fuel injected, however, I feel like I can own this for a little while, look like a total badass, rack up a few miles, and sell at no loss down the road. Thoughts?

You realize you can get a NEW bike for $3300, right? to spend that on a 1983, which rare means you'll never be able to find parts for it if it brakes, right?

It's not even pretty, really. I see no point.

I could get a zero mile cbr250r for $2700 if I felt like it. I like the styling - seems like it has aged well. I can't afford much else that is new. Anything new-ish that is sporty looks too dated to me (i.e. f4i).

You could make the same point that it's a waste to buy a 67 mustang because you can get a 4 year old one for the same $$$.

See, but you wouldn't use the 67 mustang as you primary transportation. It would be a weekend toy, and maybe see 50 miles a year.

If you're planning to "RIDE", this is the wrong bike for you. IMO of course

i think its pretty damn cool, and if you have done your research right about its value, then i say why not? being that its rare it might not sell right away when you go to unload it, but if the right person comes along i bet you could get a good price for it.

Cool bike that would fit in great with a motorcycle collector.

Personally I like it, however, I'd never own it. It's too nice and is too much of a collector piece.

SV650 with belly pan can be hand in the 2500-3500 range. $3500 will get you a low mileage great condition bike.

F4i if 01-02 model look great. 03+ not so much

Honda 919/599 can be had in the 2500-3500 range all day long. I bought my 919 with something like 6K miles on it for 3400, fresh battery, new tires, inspected and ready for tags.

There's a lot more bikes out there in the 2500-3500.

P.S if you happen to wreck this bike even just drop it/falls over in parking lot/garage, you could take a collector bike worth $2500-3000 and make it worth $1200

+1^ I'd buy it for an investment and just for the heck of it, get it dyno'd for proof of performance (or pay to have it 'tuned' for performance like a sleeper) search out some 'antique' motorcycle sites and post it. Maybe the Rob Report mag, but at almost 500/add you'd have to double your investment to feel better. Even internationally if they set up a good shipper.
In the next few months peeps are going to be getting their tax checks too!

Beautiful bike by the way.. I'd be afraid to drive it

Jeff you make an excellent point. I love this bike and it is WELL worth its asking price. I did some research and they generally go for around $5k in lesser condition. I will be getting something to ride to work almost every nice day, and take on 300 mile round trips. I know this bike is more than capable, but it does scare me that a small parking lot dump could cost me a lot.

In the end I'm looking for something decently torquy, around 100hp, standard (upright) riding, and under $5k. Going to look at the 919, SV1k, FZ1, XB12, and Speed Triple.

Not sure if anyone who would be in the market for one of these would care about seeing it dynoed its a slow bike no matter how you look at it. Someone buying it isnt buying it for speed.

I was looking at all of those bikes. Almost a year later and I have zero regret on the 919 They run and run and run... So many people have them with 80k+ miles with zero problems. It's crazy just how many super high mileage 919s are out there.

Speed triple is a great bike but nothing like the reliability of the 919 and will cost about twice as much.
I want one for a 3rd bike

I also want a superduke and a 1198

Too bad I have zero garage space

Yea I'm leaning towards the 919. Reliability + cheap + I work for the Big H so I really want to keep it in the family. The lack of any fairing is what scares me a little. I plan on occasional 100 mile one way trips on the freeway.

Oh and btw.. that CB1100F is NOT slow. 108hp, runs high 10's.

New 600s make 130hp my 1000 is something like 190
600s with good riders have been hitting 10s for years my 919 will run a high 10 low 11 second pass.
It's friggin slow vs my 1000

Straight line 1/4 mile doesn't make a bike. My 919 starts to run out of steam when I would normally be shifting into 2nd gear on my 1000 and having a hell of a time keeping the front down.

For back road riding If on a newer supersport that 1100 would be so far behind it would be sad.

I'll say it again, it's slow lol

I like the bike. I'd buy the bike, I'd hardly ride the bike.
