Yeah, I've been reading various guides. Still trying to figure out if I want to slap 1000 miles on it right off. Not a mileage thing, but we're talking 500 miles a day for the first two days of its life. Not sure if that will be a good or bad thing for the motor. Still reading..

I was always under the assumption its not the length of the ride, but more of the ride style.

wont matter, just make sure you keep the RPMs moving, it makes it kind of hard on the highway to go from 1K-3K then 1K-4K then 1K-5K depending on the miles,
on the plus side, at least the bike will be fully broke in within your first 2 days, on the downside you wont get to learn how to ride the bike while "taking it easy" that reduces the chances of going down pretty good.

Well, I know I am out of my experience level with this bike, hell, right on the edge of my comfort zone, but I've worked my way up over the years.

But I realize that "playing" with it is an easy way to get killed, so having that in mind should give me some sort of safety net. Until some drunk blind sides me with his dually.

P.S. Just got a new hat! I looked at several brain buckets, but all things considered, this seemed to be the best deal all around.. Especially in the hot ass summers of Texas. Lots of venting! I chose the white/red for better visibility and less heat absorption in the sun. I need all the visibility I can get on a black bike. Also has red LEDs across the back.

The 1000RR really isn't too bad of a bike, the main issue is if you're not good with keeping a nice easy throttle hand, you can spin up the rear, but it shouldn't be that much of an issue. on top of that the 1000Rs power tapers off as you build RPMs, VS other bikes that just straight out scream to the redline.

My GSX-R1000 will pull the front tire off the ground in 3rd gear at the top the rpm range, even when I'm as far forward as I can get, I HIGHLY doubt the 1000RR would come close to pulling it up. so in a sense its a bit more forgiving.

1000RR is a great street bike, do yourself a favor and do your own 600 mile check up, or in your case, 1000 mile check up, paying a dealer 200-300 bucks just to change the oil and check bolts to make sure they're still tight is BS.

Did you try the helmet on? if not, cancel the order and go to a local shop and try helmets on.

I didn't, but I can send it back for another size or a different helmet all together. I already have two cruiser helmets I can wear until I find the right "sport" helmet, So Its not like I'll be without a helmet.

I'm just going to look goofy as hell with a 1/2 chopper helm or a 3/4 with a face shield and harley badges.

Cannot stress this enough.

Also, make the dealer change the fluids in the bike... I don't care if its only got 5 miles on it... its been sitting for 2 years.

I'd HATE life having to ride 1000 miles with a half helmet, NO THANKS!

It might not be a size S M L thing, but rather the build of the helmet, each helmet brand has different models, different models fit different shaped heads. Some helmets no matter what size, wont fit right.

Also, I'd think twice about spending 100 bucks on a helmet, again, try on many different helmets at the store to see what the difference is.

Lots of people review things great, that doesn't mean chit, Someone who has driven a stock 1989 ford escort for 10 years is going to think a stock ford focus is the best damn car ever and rate it a 10. Same for helmets, if you're use to using a chit helmet, if you upgrade to something that is slightly better to shit, it gets a great review.

more money in a helmet = better wind noise, better weight, and softer build so it feels better on your head for longer.

For me going from a 150 dollar HJC to a 400+ dollar Shoe-i was like going from a 95 DX civic to a 05 S2000

I for one would NEVER buy any gear online unless I've tried it on first, again, it might fit, but I highly doubt it will fit right.

I miss that bike. I used to have it. It is now the size of a suitcase due to some moron in a SUV who hit me and destroyed it.

That bike was pure sex. I really miss it.
