Rep Power: 88 | My buddy has a 02 954RR: Power commander header/exhaust dyno tuned, I believe he said 140whp on the dyno. Steering stabilizer, 12 oclock bar and the side cage things Anyway, it had been about 8 years since I rode a street bike. I used to race motocross and then rode bikes for awhile before I got more into cars and just never rode the bike anymore. I took it for a lil stroll at first just to get the feeling back. I was cruising down a backroad at about 65 in 6th and cracked the throttle a bit, the bike picked right up and took the hell off!! 110 like nothing. I went down a road with some twisties and cruised thru around 70 accelerating to about 80-85, again just getting the feeling back. WELL, on the ride back I took it a bit further and wanted to see what a 900+ is all about. Until this point the biggest bike I rode was a GSXR750, still fast dont get me wrong! There was a long long straight and then a medium right hand turn to a long uphill straight away. I took off about a 1/4mile before the turn and got up to about 90 for the turn, left it in 4th for the turn. Eased on the gas thru the turn and then cracked it again when I came out. As soon as this bike hit about 7-8K it started to pull like fuckin mad!! I was over the tank with my weight over the bars and it was still lifting up a bit on me. There was a slight roll in the road and I was at about 11K in 4th, 125-130 mph. Pulled the front wheel up much further then I wanted so I eased off the throttle to bring it down. Hammered back down, ran out 4th then switched to 5th and back on the throttle hard again.....When I looked down after letting off the speedo read 152!! I was NOT planning on going 155+, but it was soooo smooth and the pull of the bike was sooo intoxicating!! I missed riding all over again. My buddy was at the end of my driveway, the road I was doing the high speed on goes past my road. He said it was just a red blur going by Good times

Rep Power: 88 | I should add that my buddy weighs about 30-35lbs LESS then I weigh, it must be an insane ride for him, I weigh 195 and I'm 6'1". He can ride the piss out of it though. I was pretty shocked I installed the cages and 12oclock bar about 2 months ago, his usual bike shop didnt want to do it and be held responsible or some shit. He was going to let me ride it when I installed the parts but the rear tire was totally shot, I wasnt comfy with riding it like that. He came up yesterday to pick up some shit I ordered for him, thats how I got the ride on it....

| Cogito Ergo Sum Steampunk | 954s have the speedo on the front tire, like most bikes. Gearing is no effect. |

| FüK-VTEC | my 01 929 didn't have one, and I doubt that Honda would have made the change back to a wheel-mounted speedo for 2 years, then back again to the regular sensor...that, and looking at the microfiche for the 954, there isn't anything at all on the front of the bike to indicate that there is any sort of sensors on the front wheel...none of the other bikes I've owned have had them, and I've never seen any other sportbikes with a wheel-mounted speedo. I don't think that ANY sportbike made since the mid-late 90's has had a wheel-mounted speedo sensor. |

| Cogito Ergo Sum Steampunk | The ones I'm routinely exposed to, the 94 ZXR900 and the 02 ZZR600 do. The 04 VTX Honda does, the Blackbird does. My ninja 250 does, but we can exempt that because it hasn't changed in about 20 years. The R1, I do believe, does NOT. It is transmission based, and this kid continually thinks that he hangs out at 180mph when in fact he touches 120 (With ride-alongs.. I'm not present) |

And by the way, the bikes you listed aren't sportbikes...not by today's standards, at least

So I'll just be over here, forming opinions based on nothing. Sorry to interrupt !

I would agree that none of those are (supersport) bikes. Blackbird is as you stated a sport tourer. I can't think of any (super sport) bikes with speedo hookups at the front wheel.

Rep Power: 88 | It wasnt meant for anything technical, just breaking up the speedo arguement a lil. Doesnt really matter anyway where the speedo is, it was the stock sprockets on the bike |

| Cogito Ergo Sum Steampunk | I'm still a little miffed at this "aren't sport bikes" shit. Come on man, get off your throne. |

I believe the official classification of a Ninja 250 is 'Beginner Bike'. Quote:

"Usually" 600 to 800. a Sport bike is commonly available in it's "R" designation, as a race-track oriented bike. The Ninja 250 is NOT an "R". But Kawasaki does make a 250R (Not sold in the US) that IS Race designation. Racing bike engine sizes are set by the class, not the class set by the bike size. The 600 Ninja is a racing category bike. Why Kawasaki called the 650 an "R" is beyond me. There seem to be exceptions to every rule. I would like to think that the 1000 cc bike class is also a "Sportbike" or "Supersport" class - with such hitters as Bimoto and Aprilia spending lots of time and effort in those categories. The ZX10R also being a phenomenal (And track oriented) bike. This definition still doesn't fit. Stop attacking me.

And if you want to get technical, 900+ cc bikes are 'superbikes' or 'liter bikes'. And yes, even if it isn't EXACTLY 1000cc's it's still referred to as a liter bike. edit: one more thing...FWIW the 250cc GP class are 2-cylinder motors...so you won't find a Ninja 250 there, either. | Cogito Ergo Sum Steampunk | Ninja 250 is a two cylinder motor. And there are two things going on here: One, our technical argument about what is what, and what the names and shit mean. Secondly, this Cel-hatred that everyone seems to share is a matter of perspective. I think you are an asshole too. When you argue with me and just try to berate me, it's stupid. But I don't go voicing this. Otherwise you're an awesome dude. Maintain civility. Arguments happen. People disagree. |
