'97 M3, $8800, tax, title, and liscenced.

I'm going to San Fran on Sunday to look at it in person and hopefully pick it up. I can't believe I'm about to spend this much on a fucking car. On one hand I'm excited and on the other I feel like I'm just wasting money.

I thought that the price of parts was going to be crazy, but they're really not all that bad. Just need to get the tools and FSM to work with.

Oh yeah, Brian, how well do you fit in the front seats of E36 M3? That's really my biggest concern with how tall I am (6'5"). I want to be absolutely comfortable if I buy this car. For example, and I know it's a stretch but, I have to lean the seat back in my Si a little because of the sun roof. Or, the dash in my '96 S10 is angled so that my legs aren't quite comfortable. Dude's holding it for me without a deposit, so I don't want to waste his time.

plenty of head room in bill's 328is (basically the same shit as an m3 on the inside) for me.
more than in my e46, thats for sure.
i fit no problem at 6'1, and a fat ass, which makes me sit higher than your skinny ass will :P with a helmet on.

plus, with the power seats, they go up and down too :P

my dad's 99 s10, i'm the same way. the seat doesn't go back far enough and my knees are on the dash.

Moral dilema.

Ok, so my mom and I are both drawing insurance money out of the same account and just found out that $5k a day is our max. We already have $4k available giving us the money to get this car. Great, but here's the kicker. My mom's been without a car for at least six months and she just found a '96 Toyota Paseo that she really wants (me) to buy. I talked dude down to $3400 cash, tomorrow. This was before I knew about our limit. There's somebody else looking at the car tomorrow and it's an automatic, which is surprisingly hard to find for this car. I feel like an asshole now. I guess that goes with the territory of owning a bimmer (ooooh...*buh-dum-pish*). But then I found a '90 535i for a price that will let me get both cars this weekend (picture below). I still haven't called the guy but money does talk. Gah, I'm just sitting here going 'round and 'round and 'round and 'round. I think I'll just listen to my gut instead of my head and my gut says to buy my mom her car tomorrow. Fuck, I already talked to the dude with the M3...but it is on eBay until tomorrow and I haven't given him any money yet. Oh well, it'll just be something to look forward too.

So, with a heavy heart I cancel the sale of the M3. I didn't really want a '97 or one with that many miles anyway. Plus I found it on eBay, with a lot more pictures, and it looks like it's either been rear ended or backed into something at some point. There are two small black marks on the rear bumper cover and the cover doesn't seat correctly at the wheel wells. Fuck it, I'll just wait until the real estate thing kicks off and buy a garage queen '95 M3.

So, I'm almost certain that I'm going to buy a '90 535i with 186k miles that I found down in Santa Cruz. I've talked to the guy a few times today and got a price that I can live with. It's more than I want to spend but still less than he wants, plus I can sell the subs and amp for a few bones and be closer to where I want to be. But, my mom will hopefully get the car she wants tomorrow and that'll be more than worth not getting the M this weekend.

Everything zen...I don't think so.

Damn it. I hate self control sometimes. Dude didn't get what he wanted for that M3 on eBay so he called me back to see if I'd still buy it. I had to fight the word "yes" from coming out of my mouth. It totally sucked.

To make it suck even more, the Paseo that I was going to buy for my mom got swooped just a few minutes before I got there. It's alright though, dude kinda overplayed how nice the car looked. I found a '93 318is I'm going to try to get for her though. It's the same price but I wasn't able to get ahold of the guy today when I called. It's from a dealership so it was probably just closed. Hopefully they've still got it tomorrow, it doesn't have obscenly high miles, and looks as good in person as it does in pictures.

I also found exactly the 325 I was looking for...well, almost. It's a one owner '95 325i with a 5-speed and only 132k miles. There appears to be a fist sized dent in the driver's side rear quarter panel but it looks otherwise good in pictures. The car's three hours away, in Palo Alto, so I can't just pop over to look at it. So I asked him to send me a bunch of pictures. We'll see. Maybe one of you Bay Area folk wouldn't mind taking a look for me?

One car down, one to go. I got my mom a '93 318is auto with 197k for $3400 out the door. It has some cosmetic issues but it's still the nicest car she's ever owned and her reaction was well worth the work I'll need to do...which isn't really all that much. I'll get some pics tomorrow or Thursday. Now I just need to find my car.

I must say, this car's nice even for a 318 and at the price of a comparable Honda it just can't be beat. I'm going to keep my hatch but I don't think I'll be buying any more Hondas.

once you go bimmer, you never go back.

it's all the little things that you take for granted at first, but end up making every other car you drive, just, well, suck.

Fuck yeah. I got my 325i today. It literally fell into my lap. I posted a WTB ad on Craigslist about a week ago and hadn't check my email in a few days. I decided to go check and I had a two hour old message from a guy selling his '95 325i 5 speed. It has 97k miles and he was the original owner...probably in his late-40s to early-50s. He's done all of the preventative maintenance and the car's in outstanding shape. I got it for $4100 because he thought it wasn't in pristine condition. There are so few things wrong with that I didn't even haggle over the price. I just looked it over, asked him the questions he hadn't already answered, and said "I'll take it." I've seen 325s in similar condition going for $5-6k. I really liked his attitude too. In one of the emails he sent me he said, "I didn't park this in my living room and stare at it, I have driven it on the road." Pictures to come.

It's bone stock, so I need to lower it and get some rims. The huge sidewall's already killing me. I'm either getting some M3 contour rims or a set of ASA AR2 rims and most likely a set of H&R Sport Springs, but I have't decided on struts yet. Then I need to color match the side skirts/bumpers and I'll be set. Well, until I decide I want more power. Dear lord, it never fucking ends but it's so much fun.

I highly recommend you guys check out a 3 Series before buying another Civic.

Thanks guys. I'm still giddy like a school girl.

Yeah, I'm thinking either Bilstein or Koni yellows for struts. And that website is bad-ass. I'm going to be browsing there for hours.
