Default Geo Tracker 8 valve block 16 valve head

I am looking for info on this head swap

background
16 valve MPFI tracker motor = G16A
bottom end is shot
have a good 8 valve TBI motor

8 valve and 16 valve have diffrent valve reliefs in the pistons

put the head on, timing belt
seems to turn over with no clearance issues
anyone know anything about this?

What year are these motor / head combos ? I know this stuff, but only by year.

Also, I thought my gf's Tracker had a SOHC, but after close inspection (Yeah, I know.. it sounds strange) it turned out to be a staggered DOHC.

As I know, lots of these motors cross-over from other years that you wouldn't think. Even the VW Diesel swaps are neat.

well, it turns out it did work

it was a 94 MPFI 16 valve tracker
book said stock compression is 190, minimum is 170
this one had about 100 across the board

we picked up a 92 auto for a hundred bucks but it was TBI 8 valve
so we decided it would be a good field/woods car
it was a damn good runner too, but started puking auto trans fluid
so we decided to call auto zone and get head gasket part numbers for the 2 models
same headgasket
so we pulled the 92 8 valve
found out the front trans seal had just spun out thus the trans fluid leak

so we ripped the 92 motor down to swap out the 8 valve block as the rings were smoked out of the 94 block
once we got the 94 motor out and the head off we noticed the diffrence in valve releifs in the pistons them selves
fuck it, threw the head on with a timing belt and it spun over with no interferance so we figured we'd try it
needed to use the 16v timing belt cause its longer and also wider so we needed the 16v crank gear and tensioner

everything else went together very well and its runs and has a decent amount of power

swap complete

Default my mom just got a tracker too

I am just curious how did you get it to run, did you use the original throttle body injection or did you wire in the multi port some how.

The Tracker was originally MPFI. He put the TBI short block in it.
It's in the thread.
