maxima auto trans
my brother has a 93' automatic maxima. The transmission likes to shift itself into neutral when at a stop (either in drive or reverse). Sometimes it will shif itself back into gear, other times it takes some revving to get it to go into gear. Yesterday I was under it and noticed that the tranny oil pan was dented a little, like the car had bottomoed out. Do you think this could be the culprit?

I'd start with a new pan, filter and a good flush and refill. If that doesn't fix it, it could be the control module, or something internal.
